Florida on June 10, 2018, and taken to the Busch Wildlife Sanctuary in Jupiter, FL.  Three days later Big Cat Rescue was contacted by BWS asking if we’d be willing to rehab the orphaned kitten for release back to the wild.  Since he was about 2.5 months old, he will probably be a great playmate for Bravo and Tango.

He arrived with a load of hookworms and roundworms, so he has to be kept separate until we are able to extinguish the parasites, but all three kittens are next to each other so they can get to know each other.[/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=”What Happened to Echo’s Mom” font_container=”tag:h3|text_align:left” google_fonts=”font_family:Open%20Sans%20Condensed%3A300%2C300italic%2C700|font_style:300%20light%20regular%3A300%3Anormal”][vc_column_text]We don’t know, but we hope she survived.

Despite Florida’s propensity for hurricanes and tidal flooding, a lot of people want to move here.  That’s what caused Echo to lose her home.  In order to protect homes, fires are often set intentionally by authorities, so that all of the undergrowth is burned down in what is called a “controlled burn” or a “prescribed burn.”  The idea is that it’s better to keep that kindling to a minimum, since a lightning strike, or stray cigarette, could ignite it without warning.

When Echo is old enough, she has to be returned to the same county for release back to the wild.  If she grows up with Bravo and Tango, we may ask the Florida Wildlife Commission for a variance so that the “family” can stay together.[/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=”Picking up Echo & Frankie” font_container=”tag:h3|text_align:left” google_fonts=”font_family:Open%20Sans%20Condensed%3A300%2C300italic%2C700|font_style:300%20light%20regular%3A300%3Anormal”][cq_vc_videocover videoimage=”106360″ videolink=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4SiG4lQRjVA”][vc_custom_heading text=”Echo’s Vet Exam – What a Wild Thing!!” font_container=”tag:h3|text_align:left” google_fonts=”font_family:Open%20Sans%20Condensed%3A300%2C300italic%2C700|font_style:300%20light%20regular%3A300%3Anormal”][vc_column_text]Kathryn and Jamie brought Echo in for Dr. Justin to check on. NEWS!! Echo is a BOY!!

This happened so fast, we had to slow it down for you to see how quick thinking and action saved Jamie from having her face ripped to shreds by an angry bobcat and saved the kitten from having to be chased all over the hospital.
