Purr-sistance Ocelot

PURR-SISTANCE

Male Ocelot

DOB 5/25/96 – 9/15/12

PURRsistance and his twin sister PURRfection were born at the sanctuary before it was known that no privately held exotic cats would ever be able to help preserve the species due to the inability to tract them back to the wild.

This little ocelot earned his name, PURRsistance, quite naturally.  Despite many illnesses, he continued to survive. He still suffers from terrible allergies that cause him to rub the fur from his face.  But, with constant veterinary supervision, he leads the best possible life we can provide.  He loves hanging out on the tree branches at the very top of his extra high cat-a-tat.  Most people walk right past his cat-a-tat thinking he must be in his den sleeping when, in fact, he is looking down at them the whole time.

While some of our ocelots were born here prior to 1998 we quit breeding ocelots when we learned that there are no release programs for exotic cats.  They can never be free.  They should never be born for life in cages.

PURRsistance suffered from chronic allergies for which he was constantly treated, but in the end he succumbed to pancreatitis and associated complications.

What a heartbreaking day. I can’t believe we lost the Purrsy. I always enjoyed his feisty nature, his love of bloodiscles, and the fact that Nirvana pined for him from her cage next door. He will be greatly missed.

Awwww Purrsistance, I am so sad handsome boy. When I saw you a couple months ago and how bad your poor little face looked I sorta freaked out and called whoever the co-ordinator and I was told then that you had severe allergies, now your spirit is free and no more pain for our beautiful boy, you are much loved handsome. RIP

I always called him Purcy. Then I extended it to Purcival Jenkins. One of my favprite ocelots indeed. Always feisty, especially at med time. This is a sad tragedy and he will be missed. I know alot of keepers loved Purrsistance, as did I, but he will always be my Purcival Jenkins. I love you sweet boy, run free.

Dear Purrsistance. I was just getting to know you. I enjoyed our short talks when I would see you over by the storage shed. I talked with Nirvana yesterday but I am afraid I made a mess of things because I started to cry. I told her you were ok now and not in any pain and that she will see you again. I know she feels the loss of you. You were a beautiful spirit and a very tough boy. I will miss you greatly.
