The Most Important Thing YOU Can Do to Save Big Cats

Most-ImportantThis bill called the Big Cats and Public Safety Protection Act is the most important piece of legislation to ever be introduced to protect lions, tigers and other exotic wild cats from being kept as pets and in miserable roadside zoos. It ended the 113th Congressional session with more than 120 co sponsors.  Now we are working to re introduce the bill in January 2015.

Who is Big Cat Rescue?

Big Cat Rescue, one of the world’s largest accredited sanctuaries for exotic cats, is a leading advocate in ending the abuse of captive big cats and saving wild cats from extinction.  We are home to about 100 lions, tigers, bobcats, cougars, servals and other species most of whom have been abandoned, abused, orphaned, saved from being turned into fur coats, or retired from performing acts.

We learned this week that American Legion Post 1 in Titusville, Florida will have a lion cub on display at their Family Fun Day event tomorrow.

Big Cat Rescue has tried unsuccessfully for the past several days to convince the American Legion to cancel the cub display. We informed the American Legion that allowing a lion cub owned by a pseudo-sanctuary with numerous USDA violations to be exhibited and exploited at an event geared toward children and adoptable pets was especially cruel and wrong.

Read the rest of the story here and then TAKE ACTION by adding your voice and name with a PRE-WRITTEN EMAIL that will go directly to the decision makers at the American Legion:

You can also post polite comments on these American Legion Facebook pages:

Nicholas J ModdI signed the email and left both Facebook pages this message: " When one of the top GFAS accredited big cat sanctuaries in the world contacts you about an important issue regarding an animal's well being, and you ignore it... that's egg on your face. Big Cat Rescue has contacted you about the exploitation of a lion cub at your Family Fun Day event, tomorrow at American Legion Post 1 in Titusville, Florida . Please heed their advice! Listen to what these dedicated people are telling you. Please do not exploit this animal at your event. Thank you for reconsidering your stance on this animal's welfare. You can be their voice, you can stand up for this animal and do the right thing! " I hope they get the message.2 hours ago   ·  8

Elsie Mercadante-EnglandUnless you know how to handle an exotic large animal that will turn into a predator by nature and can provide a healthy and secluded environment for this baby lion cub to roam free. And give it all the proper nutrition and supplements it will need. PLEASE HAND OVER TO PEOPLE WHOM HAVE DEDICATED THEIR RESEARCH AND STUDIES AND FOR WELL BEING OF THESE EXOTIC BEAUTIFUL MOTHER NATURE BY GOD CREATURES!!!!!!2 hours ago   ·  3

CAT UPDATES on Cheetaro, Cherokee, Siera, Cybil, & Mickey

Cheetaro is doing great and just went back out to his enclosure a few minutes ago.

Cherokee was moved back into her enclosure. Since she is so wild, we can't give her sub q fluids, so she's been prescribed blood 'cicles twice a day.

Siera was moved back into her enclosure. Since she is so wild, we can't give her sub q fluids, so she's been prescribed blood 'cicles three times a week.

Cybil is still in intensive care and may be on the Ustream channel later today. She has to get sub q fluids in the squeeze cage. She's on new meds to help with her nausea.

Mickey's surgery, on his bad knee is set for a week from now.
