TAMPA, Fla. - May 5, 2013 - Nine exotic cats and two other wild animals were confiscated from a dilapidated Atchison, Kansas, property yesterday after authorities discovered that the animals had been abandoned in their enclosures without access to food or clean water. It's a heart-warming rescue of three adult tigers from Wild Animal Orphanage (WAO), a San Antonio, Texas sanctuary that went bankrupt in 2010.

In 2003, Wild Animal Orphanage (WAO) took in 24 tigers that had been living at a New Jersey facility that was shut down by the state. After declaring bankruptcy in 2010, WAO contacted the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries

This is a letter from someone who knew the Loppi's. This person below, wanted us to know that Rob was well intended and I post it here as an example of how even the best intentions usually end up bad for the exotic animal.
According to a number of emails I got after the fact, Rob's wife was looking to euthanize the cat, but Rob's friends, family and the media were on her case and she couldn't do it without looking like a monster

TJ is the youngest of the four tigers and has the personality to prove it. He is more playful than the rest and loves to crash through all of the high grasses in his enclosure. TJ was rescued from Savage Kingdom.

What was to happen to a lion named Cameron when an owner of the roadside zoo where he lived suddenly died and the zoo was forced to close? Luckily for Cameron, he came to live at Big Cat Rescue on 5/3/04. At the zoo, he had been raised with Zabu, the white tigress, with the hopes of cross breeding them and selling the resulting Liger cubs.
People often hybridize lions and tigers because they are either trying to create a novelty that people will pay to come see or trying to avoid the law. Until

Joseph may be the youngest cat in his pride, but he is the strongest and the most fearless. He fiercely protects both male and females in his family. He is the only one that was not defanged by his former owner, but he hangs his tongue out, like the defanged cats cannot help but do, just to be like them.

Sasha has been declawed (and very badly, at that) and defanged) so she struggles to eat. We provide a soft diet for her, but without her teeth it is hard to hold the food and even hard to contain her tongue. You will often see her with her tongue hanging out as a result.
