AMRELI: An eight-month-old leopard cub fell into an open 50 ft deep well at Ambabhai Dobariya’s farm in Moti Barman village in Khambha taluka of Amreli district on Monday morning.
“We reached the spot on being informed by the farmer. We rescued the leopard cub successfully as there was no water in the well,” a forest official from Khambha said. Three days ago, a lion had fallen into an open well in Ningala village of Khambha taluka. It was rescued by the forest department. Deputy conservator of forests, (Gir east) Dhari division, Anshuman Sharma has asked farmers in the area to get their wells covered to prevent such incidents from occurring in future.
Forest officials said there are a number of uncovered wells in the expanded territory of lions called Bruhad Gir. “These places are mostly outside the protected area and fall in the revenue limit of the administration,” they added.
