News from Tiger Nation
With the Illegal Wildlife Trade conference in London, hosted by the UK Government, the brainchild of both Prince Charles and Prince William, and alongside senior officials from across the globe, let us all hope that they can get some concrete action on stopping the catastrophic toll on our planet’s flora and fauna. According to new research carried out by TRAFFIC, parts of 1537 Tigers have been seized in illegal trade across 13 Tiger range countries in the 14 years between 2000 and 2013. The figures equates to 110 Tiger parts trafficked per year, or two per week.
My own belief is that these figures are grossly underestimated, given that these figures are based on actual seizures. Most of the trade is so sophisticated today that its never found.
The alternative to not finding a solution to this seemingly unstoppable demand is simply not worth contemplating. My only question – Why was India not there?
