Almost all of the photos on this site were taken by Jamie Veronica of the cats who are living at Big Cat Rescue.
Jamie Veronica's biography:
Jamie Veronica was born in Tampa, FL on July 16, 1980. Her career of rescuing big cats started in 1993 when her family rescued 56 bobcats and lynx from a fur farm in Minnesota. She graduated two years ahead of her time, as Valedictorian, in 1997 and started working full time at Big Cat Rescue. Jamie Veronica now serves as Big Cat Rescue's President.
Some of her notable accomplishments with her work at BCR include:
She started the onsite gift shop, The Trading Post, which now earns the sanctuary a third of its annual income.
She initiated sponsorship and membership campaigns and did all of the graphic design for these kits.
She produces BCR’s quarterly publication “The Big Cat Times”.
She creates all of the ads for BCR and does graphic design for many of the publications and gift store items.
She has filmed and produced several video projects for BCR including “The Big Cat Picture”.
She initiated and managed the first Fur Ball, which has now become BCR’s largest fundraising effort of the year bringing in more than $100,000 profit each year and growing.
She serves as the last original member of the BCR Volunteer Committee and designed a volunteer and internship program that has become the main workforce that runs the daily operations of the sanctuary.
She manages BCR’s rehabilitation program that has successfully rehabilitated and released five injured or orphaned bobcats back into the wild.
She is also working on several conservation projects for the Jaguar, Puma, Ocelot, and Margay in Guyana. In 1997 she was one of the earliest adopters of the Snow Leopard Enterprises program to save snow leopards in the wild by selling handicrafts made by locals in exchange for protecting these endangered cats. As a result of her tenacity in making the program work, Big Cat Rescue is the second largest retailer in the program and not one cat has been poached in areas where the program exists.
Jamie Veronica has made a hobby of photographing the big cats at Big Cat Rescue as well as several other species of animals in the wild. She has worked in slides and prints but now mainly works with digital images.
