U.K. zoo announces new lion cubs

posted: Monday 18 May 2009

Blackpool Zoo’s management and staff are thrilled to announce the safe arrival of three beautiful, healthy, female lion cubs on the 9th April. The cubs, the first in 25 years, were born to lioness, Gillian and male, Wallace who has yet to meet his offspring.

The cubs are progressing very well indeed and have been on show for a few days having been left in their cubbing den undisturbed to give them time to bond with their mother and each other. Gillian is proving to be an excellent mother and is constantly aware of the cubs’ movements while they play in the straw around her.

The cubs, as yet unnamed, will not venture out into into the paddock until they have had their innoculations in exactly the same way as domestic kittens. They will be introduced to their father and the other lionesses, Rachel and Jasmine, in due course.

Our lions really are “The Pride of Blackpool”.
