2005 Fur Ball

2005 Fur Ball

Welcome to the 2005 Fur Ball!

7TH ANNUAL FUNDRAISING
DINNER & AUCTION
Friday October 13, 2006

FUN is the word that was most often used to describe last year’s hugely successful Fur Ball by the sellout crowd of 850, and this year we plan to make it even better!  See the fun HERE.

The fun starts in deciding what to wear. The traditional “Safari Costume Formal” attire is still very much in vogue. It is described in more detail below with links to photos from last year. In addition, this year’s “Roaring 20’s” theme adds a whole new element for creativity and fun.

Then, thanks to generous donors and vendors, the ball is packed with activity and culinary delights. These include:

  • complimentary palate pleasing Chardonnay, Merlot and Cabernet from Papio Winery, who donate a portion of the profits to African Wildlife Fund.
  • sensuous chocolate fountains by Chocolate Cascades
  • enticing casino tables by DanMar Productions, complete with Roulette, Blackjack and Slots.  Play to win souvenir playing cards that you can combine with the cards of other guests at your table to make the best poker hand you can. The table with the best poker hand wins the grand prize!
  • fabulous live auction items to bid on, including a 5 day Hawaii vacation, a 4 day African safari, tickets to Dusseldorf, 30 days in a Jaguar X-type, a week in the mountains of North Carolina, a week in a Lexus SC430 convertible, and an hour in a high tech military flight training simulator not available to the public. See details below.
  • silent auctions,
  • gourmet dinner by A La Carte
  • and dancing to the wonderful Jazz sounds of the Wholly Cats Band!
  • hear the ad that Cox Radio is running on 6 of their stations

The Fur Ball is an annual event to raise donations for the care of the more than 150 wild cats that have been rescued.

DETAILS

LOCATION: The fabulous A La Carte Event Pavilion off Memorial Highway by Rocky Point Golf Course.  For detailed directions and information, click here or on photo above of the Pavilion.

ATTIRE: The traditional Fur Ball attire has been “Safari Costume Formal”, i.e. anything from pure formal to safari, cat print or jungle orientation costume, or any mix in between, such as part formal with cat print accessorizing.  This year we are expanding that with the “Roaring 20’s” theme to include costume or accessorizing from that period – gangsters, flappers –  anything goes! Be creative and have fun with it! Prizes will be awarded! Use your imagination – get wild!   For examples from last year visit bigcatrescue.org/2004FurBallPhotos.htm. La France boutique in Ybor is offering 10% off their extensive selection of period clothing and accessories to anyone who comes in and says they are going to the Fur Ball.

FOOD AND DRINK:

Complimentary Wine by Papio: Papio Wines, who support primate preservation through contributions to the African Wildlife Fund, have generously increased their donation of wine this year by 50% so we can offer complimentary wine bars with their wonderful Chardonnay, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon before the meal and, in addition, then serve complimentary Chardonnay and Merlot during the meal!

CELEBRITY MC: To keep us entertainingly on track, Bay News 9’s wonderful anchor Jen Holloway has kindly agreed to return as our celebrity MC!

Complimentary Chocolate Fountains: Chocolate Cascades is generously providing three decadent Chocolate Fountains, each with a different kind of chocolate, into which you can dip Strawberries, Grapes, Sliced Bananas, Cubed Pineapple, Pound Cake, Pretzels, Marshmallows, Biscotti and Melon Balls and then smother them in toppings that include coconut, nuts, maraschino cherries, funfetti, whipped cream. The fountains will flow as long as the dipping items, so come early but don’t spoil your appetite!

A FEW COMMENTS FROM LAST YEAR’S GUESTS:

Rob Elder from Jaguar of Tampa said, “This could be the most important social event of the year!  We are going to come every year”  He and his fiancée were there despite her being in early labor with their first child.

Jay O’Conner of Cox Radio said, “It’s going to fill the Raymond James stadium next year at this rate!  This is such an important cause to my heart.”

Things that we heard over and over from countless people were:

“You guys really know how to throw a party!”

This is so much fun!  I am crying at the stories of the cats, but just can’t stop dancing!” (The cats stories and photos rotated all night on a 12 foot, 6 foot and 2 foot screen in different rooms)

How much did you like this?
