Great day today, but it’s starting to warm up!
Amanda Tiger and Natalia Leopard were moved back to their homes from Vacation and Funcation. After mowing and weed-eating by Aleesa Salcido, Tanya Chute, Mazz, & Caity Farr, another tiger was moved into Vacation and the Cougar ‘Cubs’ were moved into Funcation!
Hoover was brought home, which he seemed grateful for. Kathyrn Stapleton & Afton Tasler managed to get him into the transport in record time.? Bridget Sardone and the interns scrubbed the gift shop floors and they look great! Operant and enrichment sign-offs were done.

We use multiple forms of operant conditioning. This is a great tactic the scratcher keeps the animal and people involved a safe distance. We use them quite often to remove mats on our aging/ arthritic residents that are not as good at grooming anymore. In this case, Artemis had a lipoma removed recently this is me getting a good look at the healed incision site on the back of her neck and making sure no obvious regrowth.
We are a hands-off facility so we use other methods to help interact safely with these large carnivores. An injury can not only hurt the person involved but also the animal while they’re all vaccinated, this vaccine is not recognized by the state of Florida. This goes for all exotic cats and hybrids (including wolfs, Bengal cats and Savannah cats ).
So if someone is bitten or scratched that cat must be treated as an unvaccinated animal and depending on the situation this could lead to euthanasia.
Did you know that if a big cat hurts someone a gov agency can, and sometimes do, step in to confiscate the cat and kill it? This is just not a risk we are willing to take.

Hoover Tiger is going home to Tiger Lake after his recent stay in the hospital recovery cage after a major nail trimming!

Moving Hoover Tiger Home – Last week Hoover Tiger had some overgrown claws trimmed so he spent the last several days in the hospital’s outside recovery cage to keep his big handsome paws out of the dirt. He was pretty happy to go home today. What a hardworking crew! See the photo album below on Facebook.
