Big Cat Updates

Cameron and Zabu went home from vacation.

Jade & Armani went home from FunCation.

Joseph is now on Vacation.  NOTE:  Usually, Joseph takes a day, or even two, to decide to go on vacation, however, this time he scooted right on over there.  He must have been in a hurry to mark over everywhere that Cameron marked.

Afton discovered Sioux LOVES CATNIP!!

The two new cats’ weights:  Lakota weighs 16 pounds and Sioux weighs 13 pounds.  The should both gain about 10 pounds now that they are here and getting plenty of high quality food.  Lakota is eating really well, he actually eats anything you give him.  Sioux is eating better now that she is outside.

VIDEO:  Update Video on Sioux and Lakota

After Sioux and Lakota arrived at Big Cat Rescue, they were taken in for a medical exam. See how it went, and how they get reunited for the first time since their rescue. Watch more videos like this at BigCatTV.com.

Projects

Carole’s brother is working on the new tunnel/runway system that will connect all the leopards to the FunCation enclosure.  That will make getting the leopards to the FunCation enclosure easier for them.

VIDEO:  Sabre enjoying his Sardini Martini Sicle Treat

What is a Sardnini Martini? First there is NO alcohol!  It is sardines ran through a blender with water added, then frozen.

Why give them things like that?  The sardines and tuna is good for them.  They taste good, if you are a cat.  They entertain the cat for a while helping to alleviate boredom.  The liquid they get from the ‘sicles helps them stay hydrated.  When cats get as old as Sabre, kidney disease is often an issue.  Staying well hydrated is a must and daily sicles help with that.

Meet Sabre:   Sabre is a 25 year old male leopard born into the private pet trade 3/1/1992.  He came to Big Cat Rescue as a three year old on 7/20/1995.   http://bigcatrescue.org/sabre-2/

What is a Panther?  The word panther is often used as a nickname for the following three species.  Cougars, Leopards, & Jaguars.  Learn more at http://bigcatrescue.org/black-panthers/

You Can:  You can purr-chase canned sardines and canned tuna at Smile.Amazon.com and have them ship it directly to the cats.  We use quite a bit of tuna and sardines for the cats’ sicles.

Keeper Corner

Priya enjoying her platform and giving the warmer weather raspberries. I don’t think South Dakota (where she lived before she was rescued) gets up to 90 in the summer much less in April.  ~Keeper Honey

She still likes me!  ~Keeper Afton

Guess who just went on vacation….this guy!! I wonder how long it’s going to take to get him home in two weeks?! Should we start taking bets lol. ~Keeper Afton

I caught this cute boy swimming in the lake yesterday, and I happened to have my camera on me. I love his reflection in the water!

Cole & Marmalade’s Corner

VIDEO:  How To Make Popsicles For Cats!

We all know cats love to be warm and they can always be found laying in the sunspot on the floor in your home … BUT extended or extreme heat can be deadly, so I decided to get busy in the kitchen and russle up some popsicles or “Catsicles” for Cole and Marm, it’s a super easy way to enrich the life of your cat/s, help keep them cool and hydrate them as well!

Cole’s not a massive fan of tuna so he didn’t really get into that catsicle much, but he loved the cat food catsicle with cat treats in the center! Give it a try, I’m sure your cats will appreciate the effort, after all you are there to serve them 😉
