 Action Alert

Big Cat Rescue has learned the Columbia Theatre in Longview, Washington will be hosting illusionist Jay Owenhouse and his tiger act Thursday night. And it’s not the first time.

ACTION ALERT: Big Cat Rescue has learned the Columbia Theatre in Longview, Washington will be hosting illusionist Jay Owenhouse and his tiger act Thursday night. And it’s not the first time. Take action here: http://salsa4.salsalabs.com/o/51389/p/dia/action4/common/public/?action_KEY=26160 Owenhouse owns two tigers – purchased from notorious tiger breeder and exploiter Bhagavan Antle – and uses them in his magic show. It is reckless, dangerous and cruel to exploit tigers just to entertain paying guests! Big Cat Rescue reached out to Columbia Theatre management and board members and asked them to please do the humane thing and CANCEL Owenhouse’s show. We explained the days of exploiting and abusing big cats as entertainment are over. Ringling Brothers circus has shut down, and numerous other entertainment acts are now successfully operating without wild animals due to the public’s shifting view about the use of big cats and other wild animals forced to perform unnatural acts in shows. Nobody from Columbia Theatre has responded to us. Please help us POLITELY educate Columbia Theatre’s management and board that big cats should not be used as entertainment! Your emails will demonstrate MANY people love big cats and want to see captive big cats treated humanely, not forced to perform unnatural behaviors in crowded venues with noise and bright lights. Please add your voice for these tigers who can’t speak up for themselves. Thank YOU!

Coordinator Report – Devin Saari

Today was a great day and luckily the rain held off for most of the day!

Tanya Chute finished food-prep today, getting it done before lunch! Food -prep was completed for Panacur.  Victoria DiGiacomo and Marie Schoubert did the cicle cats.

The project for today was working in the cubs’ enclosure since they are out in fun-cation. Thank you to Tanya Chute, Brooklynne Dillon, Ashley Tait, Caity Farr, Karla Pinzon, and Bethany Smith for working hard and getting the whole right half of the enclosure finished! Also, later in the day half of the food-prep floor was scrubbed thanks to Tanya Chute, Caity Farr, Ashley Tait, and Brooklynne Dillon

Thank you again to everyone who came in and helped today!
-Devin Saari

Foster Kitten News

Kittens, Mocha and Shy passed their SNAP tests and are now in the kitten Cabana.  Watch them daily on the Kitten Cabana LIVE streaming webcam at Explore.org/bigcatrescue or find the individual webcam, links at BigCatCams.com

Patty, Paul, and Polly will return to the Humane Society tomorrow after the staff meeting.

Paul and Polly will be picked up on Friday by an awesome person coming all the way from Maryland to adopt them together!

For the first time, our Foster Kitten Program took in two momma cats co-parenting 10 tiny innocent babies. Now that they have grown up to go into the Kitten Cabana, they are not so innocent anymore!!

Rewarding Keeper Moments – Brittany Mira

Mats that Tiger Lilly Bobcat allowed me to remove with a grooming scratcher while she enjoyed a sicle! -Brittany Mira

NOTE: There was always a fence between Brittany and Tiger Lilly. We use a telescoping scratcher from outside the fence. When the cats get as old as Tiger Lilly is they can no longer groom themselves as well as when they were younger
