Big Cat Updates

Cameron and Zabu are still LOVING their time on vacation.  Watch them 24/7 on Explore’s high-quality webcam.  Get all the cat webcam links at BigCatCams.com including the links for Explore.org‘s amazing cams.

Kricket Serval is back home and busy getting reacquainted with her toys and neighbors.

Natalia Leopard is enjoying her time in FunCation with the keepers and interns work in her home suite of cages doing cleanup, landscaping, and maintenance.

Victor and Jamie have been working on trenches around the property to distribute water. When it rains a lot this helps channel the water away from the cats, even though some of the cats, especially tiger enough the mud puddles.

Keeper Corner

While Seth Tiger was locked away in his roofed section the keepers and interns took a break from cleaning to have a few moments of fun!

Seth Tiger is a great Supervisor

Volunteer Andrew Sardone has been working hard witching our Tour Vox systems over to rechargeable batteries.  This not only is better for the environment but is saving the sanctuary a whole lot of money.

Volunteer Andrew Sardone

To complete this important project Andrew need a minimum of 300 rechargeable batteries.  Our amazing viewers, like you, answered his plea for help so well that now he only needs about 100 more rechargeable batteries to complete this money-saving project for the cats.

You can help Andrew complete this project by donating just one or more rechargeable batteries from our Amazon Wish List at https://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/3EI355RSZ6JEX Scroll down that Wish List to the blue/greenish colored batteries. Tenergy NiMH AA, 1.2V AA, High Capacity 2600mAh. They are available in a single battery pack or a 24 battery pack.

Making A Difference

In 2016 I asked one of our AdvoCats to visit Zootastic in North Carolina and take photos and video of the cub petting taking place there. This caring lover of big cats visited Zootastic in September 2016 and took photos and videos of this white tiger cub with horrible ringworm being used for cub petting and a liliger suffering from what appeared to be severe mange.

Zootastic Park Slapped With Thousands in Fines
Cub with ring worm being used in the cub petting schemes at Zootastic

Just two months after filing her complaint with USDA, Zootastic was fined over $7,000 and slapped with 9 animal welfare violations!

These are her photos that PETA used in their blog post. I’m so proud that our undercover efforts resulted in this fine and violations.

Cub with Mange at Zootastic

Check out the article at https://www.peta.org/blog/zootastic-park-fines/

I really like the last paragraph of that article.  QUOTE: No one wants to live inside a cramped, filthy cage so that humans can gawk. But at roadside zoos, imprisoned sentient animals—who value their lives and want to live free from torment just as anyone else would—are treated like inanimate attractions. These places rake in money from naïve tourists while animals continue to suffer. END QUOTE

If that paragraph does not promote a person to think, nothing will. By the way, have YOU made the Call fo the Wild, yet this week at BigCatAct.com to help end suffering like this? Until enough of you decide enough is enough and get motivated to make that call, EVERY WEEK, suffering like this will continue. The cats cannot make the call to save themselves, but YOU CAN!! You CAN SAVE THE, but WILL YOU?

A Big Roaring THANK YOU to All

THANK YOU for ALL of YOU who have been helping us test out our new educational learning units.  These will not only help you learn more about Big Cat Rescue and our mission but will be a great tool for helping you teach others.

This project has just begun and has a very long way to go before all the learning units are posted.  Your feedback on these early units have been and will continue to be a HUGE HELP to us.

If you have not yet purr-ticipated we would like to extend a PURR-sonal invitation for you to do so.  If you have already PURR-ticipated, drop back by to see if new units have been added.

The units are posted in two places.

Guatemala Rescue Update

August 11, 2018 – These photos are of our new tiger coming from Guatemala named Max. He’s getting his health check up and microchip for processing into the U.S. It will be a few months still though.

On 8/11/2018 our 3 former circus tigers Simba, Kimba and Max at Animal Defenders International’s temporary holding facility in Guatemala are getting microchipped and receiving health checks so their permits can be issued to bring them to their furever home at Big Cat Rescue!

Thank you to everyone who has donated so far! Your help has built the temporary camp and provided water and electricity. Now we are funding food for the cats and flights to get them to America. You can help Big Cat Rescue by donating here: bigcatrescue.org/circusban

Here are some photo of Max Tiger playing with his Enrichment.  We REALLY APPRECIATE the outstanding work that ADI is doing on this massive rescue effort.
