Band Guitarist Bitten by a Lion in S. Africa

Russell Lissack, guitarist for indie bands Ash and Bloc Party, was hospitalized earlier this month with a nasty bite – from a lion! SpinnerMusic is reporting that Lissack was on tour with Ash in South Africa, when he and singer Tim Wheeler decided to visit a wild animal sanctuary. At the facility, Lissack was playing with a lion cub when the creature bit him, drawing blood. But that was just the beginning of the adventure.

The Chingford, England native was driven to a local hospital for a tetanus booster. Unfortunately for Lissack, after his arrival the hospital was sealed off after two patients died from an unidentified virus. Finally, when Lissack was released, the band was involved in a car accident on the way back to their hotel. Fortunately, no one was injured.

Ash is now back in the U.K., preparing for the release of the compilation album, A-Z Vol. 2, due in stores October 11.
