BCR Volunteer has letter to editor posted!!

Kudos to BCR Volunteer Patricia Massard who wrote and had her “Letter to the Editor” selected as the lead-off letter in today’s Harrisburg Patriot-News!

Don’t forget to vote for this letter with a recommendation check-off.  It shows interest in this controversial topic. You can also post your comment there about the Pennsylvania bear that mauled its owner, who left behind a lion and tiger still captive on her property.

State should ban owning dangerous animals

By Letters to the Editor

October 18, 2009, 1:01AM

Kelly Ann Walz of Monroe County was mauled to death by a captive bear recently.

Also on her property were a mountain lion and a tiger.

While Pennsylvania’s laws about private ownership of wild animals are stricter than some states, they leave a lot to be desired.

I would like to see a complete ban on these dangerous animals — for public safety and the welfare of the animals, who are not engineered to spend their lives in confinement.

PATRICIA MASSARD, Derry Twp.
