A spokesperson of the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (DWNP) says the lion cub which was found last Thursday morning at the Department of Meteorological Services (DMS) offices in Gaborone has been returned to the Gaborone Game Reserve from where it had escaped.
DWNP spokesman, Alba Orapeleng, says the cub was brought here from Moreswe Pan in the Khutse Game Reserve on October 16 this year for observation by a wildlife veterinarian.
“When it arrived in Gaborone the cub was placed in a boma at the Gaborone Game Reserve where it unfortunately escaped during the night of October 22. On the morning of October 23, upon realising that the cub had escaped, wildlife officers responded swiftly to search for it and it was later caught at the DMS offices,” he said.
He was relieved because the cub did not injure anyone. The department found the spot where the cub escaped from the kraal where it was kept.
He praised members of the public for reporting the incident early.
