A stray cheetah that went on a stroll caused panic and excitement in Sharjah on Tuesday with onlookers following the big cat that was found roaming freely near SAS Radisson hotel.

According to eyewitnesses, the spotted cat was seen swimming across the Khalid Port before walking across the street to the mosque nearby.

Police personnel cordoned off the area to prevent anyone from getting closer to the animal until a team from the Environment and Natural Reserves Authority captured it.

While it is suspected that the animal may be part of someone’s private collection, police are on the lookout for the cheetah’s owner.

Police officials said the cheetah was about two years old and was well kept.
