These are the classes for each shirt level as well as the maps for cleaning, feeding, and the map quiz.
Class teachers are required to observe the following guidelines:
Volunteers taking a class must have completed the required prerequisite classes and must be the appropriate shirt level. If a volunteer is taking a class above their shirt level the teacher should inform the volunteer that the class is for informational purposes only and must be taken again once the volunteer is the appropriate level. Teachers should familiarize themselves with which classes may be given to each level within the volunteer program.
Scheduled Classes: Teachers that have time available to teach classes should schedule these classes and the times that they will be offered on the On/Offsite Events Calendar on the BigCat.me site. Volunteers may check this calendar and attend these classes if they have completed the required prerequisite classes.
Unscheduled Classes: Prior to teaching an unscheduled class the class teacher will make an announcement over the radio as to the time and location of the class. Every effort will be made to accommodate volunteers on property who wish to attend.
Approved teachers are free to schedule their own classes and the Volunteer Committee may also request that teachers offer classes at certain times.
To save paper and processing classes will be taken online. At the bottom of each class there is a form to sign, and a quiz to take in some cases. If there are certifications for the class, a link will be found right above the form in the class material for printing.
If giving a class to a new volunteer that does not yet have access to the BigCat.me site and has not been added to the Online Volunteer Record System fill out the appropriate information on the New Volunteer Tracking Form located in a binder in the Gift Shop.
If there is a video version of the class it will be on the page and must be administered by a teacher. Choose a location to play the video for the student where there are minimal interruptions. The Class Teacher may watch the video with the student or may leave the student to watch the video on their own. The Class Teacher must return immediately following the conclusion of the video and the volunteer’s reading of the class, to discuss the class and address any questions the student may have.
Students should read the text AND watch the video for now, as some of the videos are a little outdated. Teachers DO NOT READ to the class. At the conclusion of the class the teacher should ask the students if there are any questions about the materials covered and at this time address those questions. Following the class, the form or quiz should be filled out, which will be automatically graded when they hit Submit. The grade then forwards to Jamie.
Even though many of the documents below state they were uploaded by Carole, they were actually created by Jamie, who updates them as needed. Let her know if something is out of date.
