Controversy continues over Tiger Truck Stop’s star attraction

Truckers who travel southern highways are familiar with the Tiger Truck Stop in Gross Tete, LA. The 550-pound tiger named Tony who lives there, is currently a hot topic as animal-welfare advocates push for him to be moved to a wildlife sanctuary.

The Humane Society of Louisiana has invited the truck stop owner to tell members of the group at a meeting at Iberville Parish Library this weekend why he should be able to keep his Siberian-Bengal tiger at the truck stop.

The Baton Rouge Advocate reports that the group will meet on Saturday, Jan. 10, to discuss ways to resolve some of the issues concerning the tiger that has been a roadside attraction for more than eight years.

According to the Advocate, Tiger Truck Stop owner Michael Sandlin has said the tiger receives proper care and should remain where he has been raised since he was a cub.

The meeting is scheduled for 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Iberville Parish Library, 24605 J. Gerald Berret Blvd.
