Cougar Snuggles Up With 6-Year-Old
An Arkadelphia man is searching for a new home for his pet mountain lion after officials told him he could no longer keep the big cat in his apartment near an elementary school.
Michael Haney’s mountain lion Kiara was taken to the city’s animal shelter after police decided the big cat may pose a threat to the children at the school. Haney, who bought Kiara when she was five days old from a wildlife sanctuary in Texas, said the cat is tame and wouldn’t hurt anyone. Haney said the cat sleeps in bed with his six-year-old daughter.
Haney said he has applied for a permit from the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission to keep Kiara and the permit process has been extended until June.
