Couple stopped from climbing into tiger enclosure

Guwahati, Dec 16 (PTI) A couple, whose purse fell into a tiger enclosure at the Assam State Zoo here when they climbed over the iron railing, tried to retrieve it but were stopped in time by the guards.

The couple from Shillong had illegally climbed over a wall and iron railing of the enclosure to have a closer look at the tigers, when the purse fell in, Zoo Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Narayan Mahanta said.

Zoo guards stopped the couple as they attempted to climb to recover the purse which contained several currency notes in Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 denominations, he said.

The tigers saw it, but did not touch it, he said.

“The purse will be recovered after the tigers return to their cages. We will examine the items and return them,” the DFO said.
