Due to the recent controversy over whether Tony the Tiger should remain at the truck stop in Grosse Tete, Louisiana, all residents of the state might be wise to watch this evening’s National Geographic Explorer episode called Zoo Tiger Escape.
The program airs at 5 pm on Tuesday, August 25, 2009.
“Until December 25th of 2007, no animal had escaped and killed a visitor at an accredited U.S. zoo,” the overview reads. “Two young men were mauled, one 17-year-old boy and one 4-year-old Siberian tigress lay dead,” it concludes.
Experts studied what might have happened with the hope of improving how dangerous animal are kept in captivity.
The question for many: Why are these animals kept in captivity at all?
A question for Louisiana should be: Why is one being held captive at a truck stop and how safe is it for the public or the animal?
