In the final hours of Legislative Session, Florida’s agribusiness industry is pushing a dangerous measure (SB 1246) to prohibit whistle-blowing at factory farms and puppy mills. Responding to recent investigations in other states that revealed egregious animal cruelty, the industry is attempting to shield its inhumane practices from public scrutiny.
S.B. 1246, the Farm Cover-up bill, is on the calendar to be voted on by the Senate TODAY. Can you please take a moment to call your state SENATOR asap and ask him or her to OPPOSE this bill? This measure will threaten investigations of animal cruelty not only on farms but also on puppy mills, animal fighting operations, horse neglect situations, and will shield environmental abuses on farms, as well as other unethical and illegal activity on any land broadly defined in the bill as a “farm”. Please make sure you say you’re a constituent from the district when you call.
