Big Cat Updates
Heads Up – Seth
Seth is going to be sedated on Monday morning. His ankle was noted as being swollen well before he came to BCR. He does not seem to be affected by the swelling but the vet team is going to examine him to determine the cause. Seth’s procedure will stream live at http://facebook.com/bigcatrescue and at http://bigcatrescue.org/vet

Keeper Fun Notes & Photos
Many of you have asked about Keeper Kathryn after seeing her hand out evening meds to the cats on Carole’s Facebook live videos. Kathryn was here for many years as a volunteer keeper. A few months ago when our much loved Jeff retired Kathryn took over his position as staff in the office. She works many hours a week in the office but then in her off time she still puts in quite a bit of time as a volunteer keeper handing out meds to the cats who need them and taking extra meals and snacks to the picky eaters and whatever else the cats need done.
Some of you asked who her favorite cats are. The cats kind of choose who are their favorite keepers. Kathryn has been completely chosen by Cheetaro. If we ever need Cheetaro to do something or shift enclosures, he will often ignore everyone until we radio for Kathryn to leave her office and come to Cheetaro’s enclosure. That funny wild boy will follow Kathryn anywhere. In his younger days, from outside the fence, Kathryn could even coax him to leap up into his tree to find whatever treats the keepers hid up there.
TJ has other favorite keepers, too, but he has definitely chosen Kathryn as one of his most loved, and for Kathryn the feeling is totally mutual.
Notes from Kathryn: I coordinate on Wednesdays so I’ll try to send you things about my keeper activities on Wednesdays. This Wednesday the best thing was getting all the picky cats to eat especially TJ. Got two great pix today of both my favorite cats.
Cheetaro has been my favorite cat since 2005 he is always stalking and sneaking up on me. I love to see how happy it makes him when he thinks he surprises me. He has a stare that seems to know what I’m thinking. Walking by and seeing him follow me from far away always amazes and humbles me. He is known for his sneaky behavior. He has all his claws and is considered one of the most dangerous cats on property. He has a cute side and often gets in his tree to get keepers attention. He loves cardboard and cinnamon is his favorite spice, but also likes catnip.

TJ is very relaxed, but also has his moments of chasing golf carts. He is very picky about his food but recently has started eating more if keepers can guess correctly his favorite food of the day. He loves to lay in sunny spots and has been known to roll around playfully in the grass. He loves water and will splash around like a kid in puddles. My favorite thing about him is getting him to eat a full meal. Calling him and watching him walk across the cage to me and greet me with a chuff when he gets there makes any day better.

Speaking Up For Circus Tigers
THANK YOU to everyone who made signs and took time out of their day to show up and be a voice for circus tigers.
We thought you’d like to see some of the posters used yesterday during a circus protest in Stuart, FL.
More than 40 people protested the tiger circus show at the Martin County Fair. At least one TV station covered it too.
Note to Viewers: If there is ever a circus or traveling cat exhibit coming to your area and you’d like information on how to do something like this in your area, please feel welcome to contact our educational department at education@bigcatrescue.org or if you know of a cub petting or cub exhibit coming to your area, please contact susan.bass@bigcatrescue.org for ideas of how you can help get the word out in your area about why those kinds of exhibits are so harmful. YOU are their voice!! YOU CAN BE the Difference!
