 Cats on the Move Update

We usually move cats to and from vacation on Thursdays, however, we cannot move cats today.

Gabrielle’s home cages still needs raked & deep cleaned.  While a cat is away on vacation we often open their cages up for another cat to have extra space, like a mini vacation.  Then the cage needs raked and cleaned before the vacationing cat can come home.  We are hoping to get Gabrielle’s home cages all cleaned and raked today and ready for her to go home tomorrow.

Reise cannot go home today because the guys are still finishing the build on Sundari’s new cage addition.  The tunnel that Reise needs to go through will be attached to Sundari’s new cage so Reise gets an extra vacation day giving the guys time to finish Sundari’s new cage addition.

There are quite a few today.   Watch the cats getting fun goodies to play with.  Enrichment is very important for a cat’s mental, emotional, and physical health.  The cats get daily Enrichment but on Thursdays. when the sanctuary is closed they get bigger Enrichment goodies.  We are closed on Thursdays so the keepers can focus on large projects, moving cats, and giving the cats the larger Enrichment goodies.  If you enjoy these videos, PLEASE invite your friends to see them as well.

Cameron & Zabu get Valentine’s Day Enrichment.  Of course the first thing Cameron does is hang back to watch Zabu.  The first thing Zabu does is grab a red box from the Enrichment and run straight to the pool to dunk it.

 Nova, Bobcat Rehab Kitten Update

Nova was diagnosed with hook worms and is being treated for that.  She is being treated but cannot go outside to the rehab enclosure until she is cleared of those.  The keepers have set up additional space for her and given her another cat tree and some more toys.  You can watch her live streaming web cam at https://video.nest.com/live/B7C7VpSW4b

 People Often Ask

Why are the picky cats, picky?

Cats come to us when they are no longer profitable to their owners, which can be when they get too old, too aggressive or too sick.  When we do rescues with other groups, we always offer to take the elderly and sick because we are the best chance those cats have of getting such individual care.
The cats who are picky are all older than most big cats ever live and they have been dealing with health issues for years.  We try to keep them as comfortable as possible until there is nothing more that can be done for them.
The cats have all their medical and dental needs taken care of in a timely manner but sometimes older cats just are not as food driven as they were in their younger years.  Please know the keepers truly love these cats, even the picky one, and they cheerfully do make multiple trips every day to each of the picky cats trying different meats, cut in different sizes, they try feeding from feedings sticks, they try feeding from tongs, and different keepers try.  We coax them to eat as much as they will eat.
