Big Cat Updates
Everyone wants to know when the three tigers from the Guatemala circus will be arriving and we just don’t know. We had hoped that FWS would publish our import request in the Federal Register last Nov. which would have meant 30 days of having to wait for them to process comments on it, and then hopefully the cats could arrive in Jan. Thanks to the slow process and the government shut down, our application still hasn’t made it to the Federal Register to start the 30-day countdown. As soon as it does, we will let you know. Meanwhile, thanks to you, we have been able to provide their care in the ADI temporary camp in Guatemala which has now exceeded $26,000. Please continue to support this ongoing expense at http://BigCatRescue.org/circusban because we cannot do this without your support.
Alexa Flash News Briefing
This short news briefing will make you laugh. What in the world do keepers do when they take a break from cleaning a big cat cage. I was rolling with laughter watching Keeper Bridget Sardone and Keeper Momma Becky.
If you have missed any of Carole’s daily sanctuary new briefings please go to https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCCPv8ivo6o4CZHFifkfRYDw to see the ones you missed.
Coordinator Report – Jennifer Ruszczyk
Wow, what a Sunday Funday. We had amazing volunteers, interns, and advocats helping out today! The weather was awesome and we were very productive. The cats were acting cute during feeding and cleaning. The front 1/2 of Running Bear Bobcat’s enclosure got raked. Lots of sign-offs for enrichment, keeper tour, operant conditioning, and feeding tour.
Max and MaryAnn got Valentine’s Day enrichment. We had new volunteers start today and a special guest advocat Robin Frye rolled up her sleeves and helped with tours and food prep! Great day everyone. You guys ROCK!!!
How Big Cat Rescue Changed My Life
Here is my story about finding BCR:
In 2010-11, I went thru a separation and divorce after living in an abusive marriage for 28 years. Within weeks of the divorce being final, I received a cancer diagnosis. I had fought depression since then, even with the wonderful wedding of my daughter and the birth of my first granddaughter.
On April 23, 2016, I was scrolling thru Facebook and came across Hoover Tiger being unloaded at the Miami airport in a live feed. I watched with amazement! Over the next few days/weeks/months, I began to read and watch everything I could find about Big Cat Rescue. I couldn’t get enough. I credit Big Cat Rescue and Hoover for saving my life!
My depression is gone (with no use of medications any longer) and I am happier than I have ever been. Big Cat Rescue has become my life, my heart, my passion, and my mission. While helping to educate others about the plight of these magnificent cats and how we can stop the private possession, abuse, and neglect, I have met SO many wonderful friends I consider extended family, both at the sanctuary and online!
I now have a new purpose in life; to see the end of big cats in captivity happen in my lifetime and the population of big cats in the wild increase and live free as God intended them to live. I am so incredibly proud to be a BCR friend and supporter!
Thank you Big Cat Rescue for showing up in my life at just the right time!
I <3 BCR!
