Coordinator Reports
2/18/2019 – Devin Saari
As many of you know Cameron crossed the rainbow bridge today, may he rest in peace.
Food-prep was finished early today thanks to Fred Pagan. Thanks, Marie Schoubert, and Sharon Henry for doing the cicles. Interns and volunteers got their needed sign-offs. The rat cages were deep cleaned today thanks to Dylan Lavigne, Mazz, Catiy, Moe Mahamud, Fred Pagan, and Christina Cochard. Also, Angie Gabor did her El Dodo live stream today.
Zuccari was taken into the hospital today and will be in the recovery hospital.
It’s a fast day tomorrow for flea treatment on Thursday so only some of the cats will get food tomorrow.
Thank you, everyone, for your help today!
2/19/2019 – Sue Messineo
Very busy day today, lots of afternoon tours. Thank you to Gale for backing up a tour so that Fred could help Tanya finish food prep and do supplements. Fred, Dylan, and Caity cleaned the other half of Hutch Serval’s enclosure.
Nabisco Bobcat and Running Bear Bobcat have swapped enclosures, Bear was a bit tentative but Nabisco enjoyed the ride and exploring his new home.
Saying Goodbye to our beloved Cameron Lion

Cameron the 18-year-old lion was euthanized last night. His necropsy seems to indicate liver cancer and samples have been sent out for testing. Zabu slept in her hammock through the entire ordeal, but we will be giving her extra attention over the coming days to make sure she adjusts to the transition.

When Cameron arrived in 2004 he was skin and bones and for the past 15 years his keepers have coaxed and tempted him, at just about every meal, to eat. In recent years they would come out 2-4 times a day, and offer every kind of food they could think of, to see what he might prefer that day. In recent months his medications were changed several times to try and find that magic balance that would keep him eating and feeling good, but the time had come when there was nothing left to try.
We will miss his roars across Tiger Lake and his joyful antics with his toys. We will miss seeing the love he and Zabu expressed for each other in daily baths and spooning naps. If ever there was a cat who should inspire us to end the practice of breeding wild cats for life in cages, it was Cameron.
