Coordinator Report – Angie Gabor

Fantastic day today!!! It started cool in the morning, heated up nicely midday and cooled off again in the late afternoon. This made for very happy volunteers and cats!

We gave Cameron a turkey today and he ate like a champ. While he was eating I had my dirt brigade ( Babs Riddle, Kristen Dawley, Rich Bluder, and Maureen Calderon) came in and cover the edge of their open-air enclosure with dirt!

All, while Becky Gagliardo was channeling Cameron after she scrubbed his platform water bowl and picked up their 💩 “poo.” Doesn’t she look just like him?

Is it Cameron Lion or Momma Becky?
Is it Cameron Lion or Momma Becky?

After a full day of feeding and cleaning, our great volunteers sat together to tell each other all the cute things they saw the cats do today.

Another Amazing Day at Big Cat Rescue!!!

Big Cat Rescue Changed My Life

We often hear people tell us how much Big Cat Rescue and the cats have changed their lives.  We’d LOVE to be able to share some of those stories here.  PLEASE, email lawanna.mitchell@bigcatrescue.org if you’d like to share your story.

Videos of the Day

Andre tiger is 23 years old and LOVES Enrichment!! Luckily, here at Big Cat Rescue, we have a whole team dedicated to building new and exciting toys for the cats to play with and destroy. Enrichment is an important part of life for animals in captivity, as it helps alleviate stress and stimulate them both mentally and physically.

Watch this 360 VR video as Andre demolishes his enrichment right before your eyes!

This looks AMAZING if you wear Oculus Go, HTC Vive, Rift, Cardboard or any other sort of HMD. Get our inexpensive headset and support the cats at the same time at BigCatRescue.org/VR

You can donate to the cats at NO COST TO YOU when you select BCR as your charity on Amazon Smile and shop Smile.Amazon.com instead of Amazon.com. It is exactly the same as regular Amazon EXCEPT when you use the Smile URL Amazon donates .5% of your purchase to BCR. It’s added up to over $89,000 for the cats!

Please visit BigCatRescue.org/amazon-smile for how to sign up and let us know you did so we can thank you. 🙂

SUPER HAPPY EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENT!!!

After consistently volunteering 50 to 70 hours a week helping me with Big Cat Rescue’s online outreach programs Holly Kopacz has been invited to join the staff at Big Cat Rescue.

She will manage Big Cat Rescue’s new Virtual Zoo that will be opening at the mall in Tampa next month so look forward to more news from her on that outreach project in the near future.

Holly will continue in the volunteer capacity as the Coordinator for Big Cat Rescue’s Share Team and corresponding teams, Bio Updates, and other online projects which she has consistently been doing an ABSOLUTELY AMAZING job of.

Help us congratulate her. PURRsonally I am super SUPER excited to see what she accomplishes for the cats, the sanctuary, and our important mission.

I am so excited I can’t contain myself. THANK YOU, to Marlene, Lori, Carol J., and everyone else who chipped in to make this staff addition possible.

TWO Letters to Management

LETTER TO THE MANAGEMENT
February 6, 2019

Dear Sir/Madam:

A little over a week ago, our sister, Artemis, was taken to the Big Cat Salon and Spa without her consent. She never made an appointment, or even called to inquire about their services – yet she was taken there against her will, given a horrible patchy haircut, and had her paws painted. Obviously, the only way they can get clients is to kidnap them.

To add insult to injury, my brother and I were also kidnapped and taken there. Thank goodness we didn’t get haircuts or any of their other services; however, we were weighed and the results announced worldwide. This is called body shaming and could be grounds for a lawsuit.

And then, to top it off, we were all moved to a new enclosure. Now, that in itself is not a bad thing. BUT we are closer than ever to Beacher and Hutch. Those two magpies never shut up. They talk 24 hours a day 7 days a week; they have an opinion on everything. We haven’t been able to get a wink of sleep since the move. We are getting circles under our eyes and are too exhausted to even play.

We are not pleased, and we want to know just who is in charge of the Homeowner’s Association in our Gated Community.

Sincerely,

Aries, Artemis and Orion
The Cougar Cubs

LETTER TO THE MANAGEMENT
February 9, 2019

Dear Sir/Madam:

Complain, moan and gripe – that’s all those cougar “cubs” do. First it was the food, then it was big problems when they went on vacation a couple of years ago in the VR complaining about rain and humidity, big black birds, how they hate water, and the stinky tigers who live across the road watching them. Now they are complaining about the Big Cat Salon & Spa, and their new enclosure.

If they don’t like living near Beacher and Hutch (whom they referred to as “magpies”), then perhaps they should go out and buy earplugs like the rest of us. It’s the only way they’re going to get any sleep. And speaking of neighbors talking all the time, the cougar cubs aren’t exactly silent, either – especially when they get their breakfast, or treats during the day.

Regarding the Big Cat Salon & Spa, I believe our attorneys (Cats, Katz, Morekatz & a Rat) are still tied up in litigation about that place, and until the courts make a decision we are stuck with it.

Last, but not least: if they are embarrassed about having their weight broadcast, well, perhaps they need to go on a diet. Just sayin’

Sincerely,

Cyrus Caracal, President
BCR Homeowner’s Association
(Sent via Lori D., Secretary to the Cats)
