JOHNSTOWN, Ohio — A garage fire turned into a rescue and a surprise for a heroic passerby and firefighters Thursday morning.

Ben Uditis was driving when he noticed a fire at 3159 S. County Line Rd. Editis woke Rick Armstrong and helped him get his animals out of his garage, including a caged tiger, NBC 4 reported. Armstrong called Uditis his hero during an interview.

So, Armstrong’s hero, Uditis, helped him save his house cats and pets, but what about the big orange cat out back?

The large tiger was locked up in a pen behind the burning garage. “I’m very lucky to come out with what I got. I’m very fortunate,” Armstrong said.

While the claws and paws of a tiger could be enough to stop any firefighter in his or her tracks, the firefighters weren’t phased and worked around the exotic surprise to make sure this tale had a happy ending.
