Girl mauled by pet cougar

Review Staff Reports POSTED: May 26, 2009

EAST LIVERPOOL – A young girl was reportedly flown by helicopter ambulance to Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh Monday afternoon after either being bitten or mauled by a mountain lion.

Details were sketchy last night, but an East Liverpool City Hospital spokesman confirmed an underaged patient was flown out to a Pittsburgh facility, and a city police spokesman said the department is also investigating an incident involving a mountain lion.

The police spokesman said, "Apparently, someone has it as a pet," and that the child's parents took her to the hospital directly from the scene of the incident. He was uncertain where the incident took place, or if it was in the department's jurisdiction.

He said the hospital was informed an investigation into the incident will most likely have to be launched and said he was awaiting more information.

No other details were available last night.
