Will Bobcat was on the observation sheet for not eating yesterday, but he ate today. We are still watching him closely to make sure that not being hungry yesterday wasn’t anything more than a simple case of just not being hungry for a day. In the wild the cats do not always eat every day. Here at the sanctuary they get a big meal every single day, plus snacks. So, when a cat occasionally skips a meal we watch and offer more food but don’t worry too much if they are acting normal in all other ways unless they are not hungry by the next morning. Will did eat well today but we will still watch him closely, just to be sure everything is okay.
Lovey Bobcat caught a squirrel and ate the whole thing. She was very pleased with herself. My heart kind of broke for the poor squirrel, though.
Cameron isn’t eating as much today as we’d like to see him eat, but the keepers are continuing to offer different things. He seems fine, happy, and content. The keepers will keep giving him catered room service, multiple times a day, too. These few picky eaters sure keep the keepers running.
We sincerely appreciate our online viewers helping us keep an eye on the cats and alerting us any time they see something not right. Yesterday, a couple of our AMAZING viewers contacted us with a concern thinking they saw vomit in Hoover’s cage. Gale ran to check it out and thankfully it was not vomit. Here is Gale’s reply: “This AM I cleaned Hoover. He had poop in the back of the cage. In order to clean I have to close the door so I can safely scrub and hose out the cage. Also the cage needs a little time to dry before we let him back in so he will be locked over for about and hour or so. The food you saw was bits from feeding him this AM, not vomit. Thanks for keeping an eye on him.”
We sincerely appreciate each of you dedicated cam viewers who are so diligent about helping us keep an eye on the cats. YOU are helping us care for them better! YOUR time and efforts ARE APPRECIATED!!
Hoover is up to eating about 14 pounds a day, split up in multiple smaller meals. He will eat as much as 7 pounds per sitting as long as the keepers sit there and patiently feed it to him from a feeding stick one bite at a time. The keepers are happy to do that. Some days it takes a few tries to get that much down him.

TJ likes being fed off the stick because he does not like his food to touch his front teeth. He has had a lot of dental work. We try to get him to eat 5 to 9 pounds per meal and he gets 2 to 5 meals a day until we can get 10 to 14 pounds a day. He likes to walk up and down the fence between bites and often waits for the keepers to follow him. TJ ate a good breakfast today, but not as much as we want so the keepers will keep offering him more food throughout the day. I think he likes his numerous ‘room service’ calls throughout the day. Yesterday he ate a combined total of 14 pounds. WAY TO GO TJ!!!

You can help us save domestic cats and kittens through our fostering program with donations of food, litter, blankets, toys, milk, etc: http://BigCatRescue.org/donate We can always use food and plain clay litter (NO clumping), but it can be heavy and costly to ship. We can also use any new domestic cat/kitten toys, towels & blankets because they wear out easily. We could also use small, very low edged litter pans that tiny kittens that are just learning can climb into, and heating pads. Thank you for any thing you can contribute to this fostering project!
