Cat Updates

Nirvana

What happened:  When Keepers noticed that Nirvana the 22 year old ocelot was squinting, Dr. Liz Wynn was called in to diagnose the problem. The stain showed an ulcer which resulted in Nirvana spending some time in our West Boensch Cat Hospital to get eye drops several times a day.

Nirvana is doing well.  She has spent several days in the recovery hospital.  We left the lights on during the day and turned most of them off at night so her day/night cycle would not get messed up.  She is eating, drinking, and pooping.  Her attitude was good.  She took her meds and got her eye drops.

GOOD NEWS:  Nirvana was seen and cleared by the vet to go back outside today.

You Can:  You can help us keep an eye on her at:  https://video.nest.com/live/B7C7VpSW4b

Hoover:

Hoover is doing well since this surgery to repair his stitches. He’s still in the hospital cage, to keep the surgery site clean. He is eating small meals multiple times a day.  He is taking his meds, is alert, and in general doing well and is even playing with his new toy.

You Can:  You can watch him streaming live in the outdoor recovery cage:

Dutchess was given back her second cage that had been modified, in case Hoover would need it for healing.

 Tampa Storm Update

The Tampa wind advisory says winds won’t exceed 25 MPH so we are letting the cats back out into their open air cages.

 People Often Ask

People Often Ask:  Do you allow visitors?

The short answer is yes, we offer guided educational tours.

We are a sanctuary, not a zoo, so our animals come first. We do not allow people to wander around unescorted.  Our tours are all guided and provide an educational experience that includes the plight of big cats in the wild and in captivity and what you can do to save them.

We are closed on Thursdays. We offer guided tours on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday at 3 PM for adults and children 10 and over. On Saturday & Sunday we offer tours at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. for adults and children 10 and over. These are walking tours and take about an hour and a half.
