Happy Birthday Loki Savannah Cat

It’s a special day for Loki! Today we celebrate Loki Savannah turning 5 years old!

We often see Hybrids being abandoned due to their wild nature and Loki is no different. Lucky for him he ended up at Big Cat Rescue where he can indulge in his wild instincts. Learn more: https://bigcatrescue.org/savannah-cats-and-bengal-cats-make-bad-pets/

Coordinator Report – Lynda Licht

Where did the sun go on my Sunday Funday? It was c-c-c-cold and wet all day. Still, we all did our jobs with smiles on our faces.

Due to rain, a lot of tour guests canceled but some were still brave enough to don our free ponchos and see the cats. Several partners including Lisa Spencer-Novak and Amanda Wright and intern Susana Zhong gave tours so other interns were freed up to feed, get signoffs and deep clean both the kitten cabana and food prep/cooler. A LOT of scrubbing going on today by Dylan Lavigne, Tanya Chute, Mazz and Fred Pagan!!

Rebecca Williams gave the keeper tour and Sarah Copel did the feeding tour. Guests and cats were happy.

Stephanie Witherspoon and Rebecca Williams stayed a little later and made bunches of supplement and Epakitin capsules. Then Rebecca Williams did hand out supplements and snacks before she left. Despite the rain, the kitties cooperated.

We were all anxious to get out a bit earlier than normal and GET WARM AND DRY!!

Videos of the Day

GoPro: Feeding Cougar Cubs (Last Week) Each morning at Big Cat Rescue a team of certified keepers feed over 60 Big Cats. In this GoPro video, you get to see what it is like to feed our 3 cougar siblings named Ares, Artemis and Orion their breakfast. Our Cougar “Cubs” are actually over 13 years old now but they came to us as cubs so the nickname has stuck.

You can learn why they ended up at Big Cat Rescue on their bio pages at:
https://BigCatRescue.org/ares/
https://BigCatRescue.org/artemis/
https://BigCatRescue.org/orion/

and learn more about our feeding program at:

Servals are a wildcat native to Africa and are often nicknamed “cats of spare parts” due to their unproportioned bodies. They have the largest ears of all the cats, a small head, long legs, a coat with both spots and stripes and a short black-tipped tail. They are the best of all of the wildcat hunters and use their unique bodies to their advantage.

Watch this video to meet some of BCR’s Serval residents in 360 VR, including Nala, Zimba, Kricket, Zucari, Servie, Des & Pharoah! This looks AMAZING if you wear Oculus Go, HTC Vive, Rift, Cardboard or any other sort of HMD. Get our inexpensive headset and support the cats at the same time at BigCatRescue.org/VR

Foster Kitten Program – Supplies Request

Hello friends! Our kittens are in need of some supplies.

Foster Kitten
Foster Kitten

Donations of  Disposable litter trays
22g X 1″ needles
Baby wipes
Cage-side hanging water bowls Would be awesome!
As always, the kittens would also love washable toys. Thank you, everyone, for your support!

One of the most rewarding things for me as the foster care manager is seeing the passion some of the interns have for the program. Tanya works six days a week at the sanctuary and spends nearly all of her free time with her kittens. Thank you for your dedication and hard work, Tanya! You’re saving lives! https://www.facebook.com/tanya.chute/videos/10157114736490712/

THANK YOU, Kitten Karma
