Big Cat Updates

Mickey is doing very well.  THANK YOU, Everyone, who helped us keep an eye on him.

A viewer  at http://explore.org/live-cams/player/big-cat-rescue-lioness-nikita reported seeing Nikita Lion cough and act like she gagged so keepers started watching her closely because the vets wanted to see what she was doing.  It was decided to move the nest cam from Mickey to Nikita.  You can help us keep an eye on her at https://video.nest.com/live/JmCWXdpxWh  If you see her do anything the vet should see, please note the time (Easter Time Zone) and let us know so the vets can rewind the camera feed to see what she is doing.  This is one of her roofed cage sections connected to her big open topped yard.  It is the only cage section small enough for the camera to see most of it.

Can YOU tell them apart? Hints Look closely at stripe patterns, their nose tips, and the shapes of their eyes. See it?

Sabre in the Louvre Museum in France in 2010

By Jeff Kremer

Reflecting upon the heartfelt passing of dear Sabre…

Fondly remembering when I worked with an artist in France whose painting of Sabre was displayed in the Louvre Museum as part of an annual exhibit.

Frederique Lavergne is a French painter whose artistic focus revolves around that of animals and nature. Her artistic creations are currently being displayed at art galleries in the USA, UK, Ireland and France.

Frederique was born into a world inhabited by horses and sketches of fashion. Before learning to speak, she learned to draw and the picture became her language. Frederique always begins a painting with the eyes, as she believes they are the most beautiful expression of a deep connection and an opportunity for humans to learn a lot about themselves.

It began to disturb Frederique in realizing that by selling her big cat portrait’s she was indirectly “profiting” at the expense of animals that were being bred for the fur industry as well as others that might soon become extinct in the wild.

Frederique reached out in support the sanctuary’s efforts with a desire to contribute to an organization whose mission is focused on the welfare of animals and the preservation of their native habitat. She chose Sabre, one of the sanctuary’s Black Leopard’s as a model for a magnificent painting that will be displayed as part of an upcoming exhibition at the Le Louvre in Paris, France called “Art Shopping”.

This exhibition was presented at the Carrousel du Louvre, a historic portion of one of the world’s greatest museums. Frederique kindly donated a portion of the proceeds of the sale of this masterpiece in support of the magnificent animals that call Big Cat Rescue home.

In the comments at the bottom of this page can you list any odd national holidays you know of that would be fun to make cat themed captioned photos for?  Also, if you are interested in helping make the photo collages for this fun little project let me know in the comments below or by emailing me.
