Big Cat Updates

Afton’s Coordinator Notes for 7/17/2018

Good day today, but it was hot!! We had two private tours in the morning and full tours in the afternoon. The interns took 1 hours shifts watching the cell tower workers. Most of them took a turn so no one had to stay more than an hour.

Pharoah’s enclosure was finished and he was given back full access. He was up there investigating his tidied up space before I left. We got a Pepsi delivery today. Keisha ate every time I tried offering her food. She was in a pretty good mood today. That makes me happy!!

The Kitten Cabana needs everything deep cleaned and bleached.

Devin Saari’s Coordinator Notes for 7/16/2018

Amazing day today even though it was very hot! Lots of volunteers came in to help get feeding and cleaning done. Food prep was finished by lunchtime. Laundry was done throughout the day, we are doing a great job keeping up with it! A fly trap was added to Apollo’s enclosure. Interns that needed sign-offs got them today.

Projects completed:
-Kali’s enclosure is finished
-The stairs behind Kali were scrubbed clean
-Sticks were picked up around the sanctuary

People were here to work on the cell tower for most of the day

Cats On The Move

Priya was moved to a new enclosure.  She still has a pool, platforms, sunny areas, shady areas, dens, places to hide, etc.  Watch this video to see her running around, splashing in the pool, and talking up a storm.

Hoover - Keisha Battle Continues

International Tiger Day is coming up very quickly, July 29th.

This year Big Cat Rescue is purr-ticipating in supporting three worthy conservation projects working to save tigers in the wild.  To raise funds for those projects Jamie made some special BCR Tiger Gear.

Two of those items are beach blankets featuring photos of Hoover and Keisha.  There is currently a race to see which tiger’s beach blanket will raise the most for wild tiger conservation.

Who will win, Hoover or Keisha?

Note from Barb N. at Big Cat Rescue: The Hoover verses Keisha battle continues. Attached is a photo from California of my stepson Glenn and my granddaughter Savannah modeling their new Beach Blankets. Like everyone else, I couldn’t decide which one to send, so I ordered BOTH! No harm was done because International Tiger Day is such an important cause.

Phone2Action Weekly Update July 6 through July 13

Phone2Action Weekly Report July 6
Phone2Action Weekly Report July 6

Have YOU made the Call of the Wild this week at BigCatAct.com

REMINDER: If you really truly want to see the abuse and exploitation of big cats and their babies ended then you must step up and do your part. The abuse and exploitation will not end unless YOU care enough to step up and make that phone call, every week, at BigCatAct.com

When enough of you get motivated, and stay motivated, to make that call, EVERY WEEK, then the proposed law, Big Cat Public Safety Act, will actually become a federal law and that, my friends, will put a stop of so much big cat abuse and exploitation.

Do you want to see big cat abuse and exploitation stopped? Really? Do you really care? Does it really matter to you? Are you making that weekly call? Are you asking friend and family to make that call each week?

How about it, do you care enough to step up and make a simple phone call, once a week?

Foster Kitten Updates

If you watch the Explore.org Kitten Cabana webcam you will see some of the kittens are missing.   Until we are sure they are not contagious, they will remain at home in Intern housing being very closely monitored.

A skin scraping of the kittens was taken a couple days ago. There will be no diagnosis until next week, but until then, the kittens with lesions will be treated as if they are positive. They will start twice-weekly sulphur dips as well as oral medication. We will find out next week how long to treat.

The kittens in the same house without lesions will be treated preemptively with dips and oral medication.

The B kittens in the Modglin Intern Hosue are to be observed for one week. If they do not break with lesions, they may return to the Cabana next week.

We are keeping all kittens that were in the Cabana quarantined until further notice.

The Cabana and all the trees, toys, etc will be thoroughyl cleaned and disinfected as a preventative measure.
