Finished Zeus cage and the Open Air for Cam/Zabu. Also started mowing outside the vacation cage.
Put together all the Coolaroo beds to put out tomorrow. Watch for live FB feed on the Dodo Impact at 2PM ET to see who is getting the next 8 beds that came in. HUGE shout out to everyone who donated a bed. We will try to figure out who still needs one today, too. To date, there have been a total of 13 Coolaroo beds arrive.
27 of the cats here are over the age of 20.
This was filmed live on The Dodo Impact: Bobcats and servals are getting NEW hammocks.

Has everyone made the Call of the Wild, this week? BigCatAct.com It is one of the most important things you can do for the cats.
Coaxing Mickey into the transport cage.
Catching Desiree Serval.
Keeper Kathryn is doing flea prevention today and talks about how the cats pass the word along that the lady with the stinky stuff is coming so they run and hide. Also, bringing Desiree into the recovery hospital to wait her turn to see Dr. Justin.
Mickey Cougar has had some seizures so we have brought him in for diagnostics. Found some rotten teeth that have to go.
The keepers got Mickey’s paw print and Carole posted a tote bag featuring Mickey and his paw print.
DesireeServal sees the vet.
Surprise! Surprise! Surprise! Desiree the “female” serval we rescued in 2009 turned out to be Dez, a MALE serval. She…I mean HE, was brought in to have some mats shaved off, and diagnostics done and what we discovered was pretty funny. Jamie has been saying Desiree looked like a male to her since 2009, but we never had any reason to sedate and find out. So, interns are going to comb out the rest of his excess fur, to make it easier for him to groom himself and he will go back out to his Cat-a-Tat. Mickey is waking up fine.
Keeper Mary Lou: Chaos voicing her opinion.
KITTENS, LOTS of kittens romping and playing.
INTERNATIONAL TIGER DAY IS JULY 29TH, 2017
Big Cat Rescue will donate the profit from all purchases of our International Tiger Day merchandise — and any donations made on the ITD merchandise page — plus we will MATCH THE PROFIT DOLLAR FOR DOLLAR up to $5000. The funds will benefit the Corbett Foundation’s work to protect wild tigers and leopards in India from falling into open farm wells. The money will be used to construct chain-link fences around the wells, keeping the big cats from falling into these very deep wells and drowning. About 2500 of these open farm wells exist, many in the core zone of the Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve.
It costs approximately $100 to fence one well. We hope to send the Corbett Foundation a check for $10,000, which will fence 100 wells. Learn more and check it all out here: https://bigcatrescue.org/international-tiger-day/
Plus you’ll have a chance to win an original paw print painting when you post a photo of yourself on July 29th with your TJ tiger International Tiger Day merchandise!
The cougar has the greatest natural distribution of any mammal in the Western Hemisphere except for man.
The cougar is extremely agile and has great jumping power and may leap from the ground up to a height of 18 feet into a tree.
Cougars are good swimmers but prefers not to enter the water.
A cougar’s sight is its most acute sense with a good sense of hearing, but is thought to have a poorly developed sense of smell.
Cougars are often called different names depending on the regions they live in, although the DNA is the same. Their sizes may vary region to region depending on habitat and the prey base for that region, Some of those names are: Cougar, Panther, Puma, Catamount, Mountain lion, Mountain Screamer, Screamer, Painter, American lion, and some others I can’t think of right now.
The cougar is the largest cat in the genus “felis”, and is comparable in size as the leopard. They vary in length from 59 – 108 inches with a tail length of 21 – 36 inches, and height from 23 – 28 inches at the shoulder. Weight can vary greatly, between 75 and 250 pounds. They have a long body with a small head, short face, and a long neck and tail. They are powerfully built, and the hind legs are larger than the front. The ears are small, short and rounded.
Cougars are solitary cats and will avoid other individuals except for during mating. They communicate by the use visual and olfactory signals, and the males regularly make scrapes in the soil or snow. Their vocalizations include growls, hisses, and bird-like whistles. They purr like the domestic cats, and during estrus, the females give off loud, hair-raising screams.
