Big Cat Updates
July 6, 2017
Reise is working her way home from FunCation, but has stopped to flirt w/ Cheetaro.
Jasmine Tiger will be going home from FunCation. We will mow then I don’t know who is up next.
Dr. Justin will be here at noon to see Cheetaro Leopard, who didn’t eat yesterday and looks bloated and Banshee Bobcat who has some serious dreadlocks to remove.
Sassy Cougar goes to FunCation as soon as they are done mowing in there.
The problem with the Tiger Lake cam we think is the connectors. New connectors will arrive possibly later today.
We tried to outsource mowing, but lawn companies were quoting $640.00 a week to over $1000.00 a week, so we are going to keep it in house. Jamie and Gale divided the sanctuary into 7 mowing zones; one for each day of the week. Volunteers and interns have really stepped up their game to stay on top of it. After mowing they are REALLY thankful to have a cool place to take a break (the new Keeper Cafe), They are really REALLY thankful for the refreshments you all send in for them to enjoy on breaks. So, again THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!
Vacation Rotation has to be mowed then we are going to try to get Andy Tiger to go into the transport cage to move him from the front of the sanctuary back to Vacation Rotation.
Gale’s Coordinator Report for July 5, 2017
Lots of mowing and weedeating happened today.
Mickey and Des saw the vet and are back outside.
Some cats got Coolaroo beds. Viewers, like you, have been purr-chasing these beds/hammocks on Smile.Amazon.com and Amazon mails them here to the cats. The cats are certainly enjoying them. THANK YOU, THANK YOU for sending these gifts to the cat.!!!!!
As you know we’ve been following Tony the truck stop tiger in LA; it looks like the ALDF is pushing for a judgement in the lawsuit involving Michael Sandlin’s special ownership to keep Tony. Since Tony’s health is failing, they’ve expedited the hearing to start today.
We put out a new bulletin on his story; since it’s in the court’s hands, right now the ALDF is just hoping to raise enough public outcry that officials see where the majority stands.

Notes To Viewers: These live Facebook videos are a great place for all of us to pitch in greeting newcomers and helping them learn about the sanctuary, the cats, and important cat issues. If you are using a device that allows you to have two browser screens open at the same time open bigcatrescue.org/quick-links/ then if you see a newcomer in the live video feed that has a question you can either find the answer for them or give them the appropriate link where they can find the answer. Be sure to let LaWanna ( firstname.lastname@example.org ) know if you have suggestions for page links that need added to that page of quick links because we want it to be a useful tool FOR YOU!
Reminder: Newcomers NEED to know they ARE welcome, even if their original comments may be a ‘bit off.’ If they took the time to watch and join the conversation in the comments YOU HAVE COMMON GROUND with them because they would not be there is they did not care about big cats. Therefore, even if they make a comment that seems a bit ‘off’ to you, please BE KIND and PATIENT. Keep in mind some of them may be coming from a background of having heard or read the garbage posted by haters, or maybe this is simply the first time seeing one of our videos and just haven’t learned anything about any of the big cat issues, yet. It is up to ALL of us, to kindly give them the opportunity to see what the truth really is about important big cat issues. Give them a chance to learn, let them ask questions, allow them room to make a few mistakes, and kindly answer them. We all made mistakes and probably said a few ‘dumb’ things before learning, I know I sure did and you probably did, too.
LOL, I think back to my first visit to BCR in 2004 and on the very first tour Howard asked the tour group a question and I boldly & loudly blurted out what I JUST KNEW was the right answer, THREE times because I didn’t think he heard me the first two times. He kindly smiled and then when he gave the RIGHT answer and explained it he kindly glanced my way making eye contact for just a moment. Letting me know he had heard my sadly incorrect answer! He he had called me ‘out’ in a harsh tone to correct me I’d probably have crumbled. Instead, of singling me out and making me feel horribly wrong, he very calmly, and gently gave the right answer to the group and explained it. Later in a one on one moment he genuinely thanked me for my answer and further kindly explained more about his answer. You know what, I will NEVER forget the gentle kindness NOR THE CORRECT ANSWER!!!
That week Carole taught me about white tigers and I was completely devastated to learn that truth and took me a few days of bugging her before I could finally accept that she was telling me the truth. Remembering how that felt, I try hard to give newcomers information and then allow them the time and room to absorb it and accept it. sometimes, it is hard to accept that what you believed was wrong. Help newcomers through the transition and don’t beat over the head because they might say something you think is dumb.
If they have a question you cannot answer ask one of us or give them my email address. If I cannot answer their question I’ll get it to someone who can.
Note: Some of our strongest, most vocal, online supporters came to us first as a hater because all they knew about us was what the haters told them.. Once someone cared enough to patiently over look their harsh comments and answered all their questions, kindly. Soon, they realized the haters had lied to them. They asked a million questions and now that they know the truth they are very outspoken about big cat issues and fight right along side us to get The Big Cat Public Safety Act passed.
Summary: We WANT people to speak out when they see something they think is wrong for big cats. So, when the only thing they have heard about us is the haters’ lies and they come to our page to ‘tell us what they think’ we view this as they are strongly passionate about the well-being of big cats and in their mind they are speaking up for big cats. Once they learn their opinion of us was based on haters’ lies and they learn what we really do, how we do it, why we do it, etc they shift their loyalties to become very outspoken against the issues at bigcatrescue.org/abuse-issues/ so PLEASE PLEASE remember to be kind, patient, and helpful to newcomers. That being said, if someone is being downright nasty, ignore them and report them to us, do not get sucked into arguments.
To those who already help answer questions and welcome newcomers: THANK YOU !! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU !! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU !! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU !! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU !! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU !! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU !! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU !! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU !! THANK YOU!!

Cats Don’t Like Closed Doors!
Why do cats like basements so much?! … when we moved into our new place the basement was off limits because it was full of stuff that was potentially dangerous for Cole and Marm to be around and cats can do some pretty crazy things at times! But the boys began to insist more and more that they could have access to this unexplored territory, so we cleaned it all up and cat proofed as much as we could, now they have access during the day when we’re home and they LOVE it!
As per viewer suggestions, Quick Links now has it’s very own page http://bigcatrescue.org/quick-links/
