Each month volunteers who dedicate 25% over their minimum hourly requirements are put into a pool from which one partner and one keeper is randomly selected to win a prize. The prize for this year will be a paw painting from one of the cats.
April 2017 Keeper – Honey Wayton
April 2017 Partner – Edith Parker
PLEASE CLAP YOU PAWS for all the AMAZING volunteers and inters who work tirelessly caring for the cats they love.
April 2017 = 3,680 volunteer hours contributed by 93 volunteers. That means Super Hero Volunteers collectively put in the same hours as more than 23 full time paid staff would have during that same time.
April 2017 = 1,897 intern hours contributed 9 interns. That means the “Angels In Blue” collectively put in the same hours as more than 11 full time paid staff would have during that same time.
If you look to any other animal sheltering type group you will find that they usually have dozens of paid staff if they have our level of income. Thanks to these dedicated volunteers and interns we only have to pay about 15 staff members because they are doing all of the cat care and most of the guest relations. That means more of the money earned and 100% of donated funds can go to the cats and to ending the abuses that cause so many big cats to be discarded.
Here is a partial map showing where the various cats here came from.
The purpose of creating the map was to show, in a very vivid way, that the trade in big cats is a federal issue.
About the only pushback we get from congress is that some believe states should make their own rules, but given the fact that so many of these cats are moving across state lines, it is clear that we need the federal ban on private possession.
It shows exactly why we need the BigCatAct.com
Imagine if every sanctuary created their own similar map. It is just stunning that the problem is this wide spread.

“Attached is the shirt with Andi bobcat’s picture and paw prints – really came out beautiful and I love where it is placed on the shirt. Also attached are a couple of potholders (one with Nirvana), which I think are so pretty. I love the moisture wicking sleeveless V-neck shirts. Definitely my favorite.” ~Paula D
Viewer Rachael Weiss (May 30): Today it has been one year since we lost our precious Teisha; I wrote a poem for her.
Teisha the Tiger, so sweet and so strong,
She lived a life that was hard and was long.
All of the tigers locked in beat her up,
Lying on concrete, she couldn’t stand up.
Dinner was fatty leftovers of meat,
And that was all that they gave her to eat.
Then one day, Teisha and all of the rest
Were rescued by angels, and only the best.
Teisha had never been treated so nice,
Now she was living in near paradise.
Without her strong will she’d never have lived
To see goodness and feel what it’s like to be loved.
The rescuer angels loved Teisha and nursed
Her back to her feet, though she wobbled at first,
She learned how to run to her Keepers and chuff,
And soak in her pool, she could not get enough.
Teisha the tiger enjoyed her new life
And never looked back on her previous strife.
One day, she couldn’t stand up on her feet.
Dragging was all she could do for a treat.
Everyone wondered if there was no hope,
But Teisha the strong-willed, to that thought said ‘nope’.
She knew the humans would do all they could.
If she had to be put down she knew that they would.
Although they feared giving up on her was near
Teisha would give up on nothing but fear.
She stood up again, but her body just broke.
Everyone knew that it wasn’t a joke.
Though six months of happiness was so much fun,
Her lifetime of torture could not be undone.
Teisha the tiger accepted her fate.
No one could save her now, it was too late.
Teisha the fighter, the fearless, the brave,
Now lay forever with tears round her grave.
The memory of Teisha will not soon grow old
And we will make sure that her story is told.

Our website is well over 10,000 pages and growing all the time. Sometimes, pages get outdated, or new info comes up, and new pages are added. From time to time we will try to mention website updates. Every single day, we add a Big Cat Updates page and you can always find that linked at BigCatRescue.org/updates/
Cubs: Learn the truth about cub petting and how it is actually the root cause of so many big cats in cages suffering.
Gloves: When there is a question that we hear frequently Carole will make a website to answer it, so that all of you can help us reply to question on social media pages. We stream all of the procedures in our cat hospital and people often ask why we don’t wear gloves. We do wear gloves any time a sterile field is needed.
Cages: Have you ever wondered what the cages at Big Cat Rescue are really like?
Mickey: Mickey’s page has been updated.
Carole is looking for a graphic artist who really gets what we are all about and would would like to help us with some graphics for shirts. If that is you or if you know someone like that, please have them email Carole at email@example.com
As per viewer suggestions, Quick Links now has it’s very own page https://bigcatrescue.org/quick-links/
Bookmarking it will help you find things quickly. That will come in handy for:
- Helping us answer questions on social media
- Finding answers to some of Carole’s Facebook Live questions
