Sundari LOVES Bloodsicles (Apologies, I didn’t jot down which keeper sent this photo in)
Do you all remember, a while back, sending in about 1,000 red Solo cups? Well these are the kinds of popsicles we make in them. Bloodsicles, sardine sicles, tuna sicles, etc. We hand out popsicles everyday when it is hot. Some days, the older cats need more than one a day to stay cool and hydrated. Yesterday Mickey was given several.
Some of you have asked to be alerted when the Enrichment Team runs low on “Sicle Fixins.” We are running low on canned tuna if anyone would like to send some to the cats for their tuna sicles.
Former Outreach Intern, Helena Parsons: Reminder, Please do not release your balloons, they can be devastating to wildlife.
Except from the article Balloons & Wildlife: Balloons are great at birthdays, weddings, graduations and more, but once they get loose, balloons can pose a threat to many animals. Birds, turtles and other animals commonly mistake balloons for food, which can harm or even kill them. In addition, many animals can become entangled in balloon strings, which can strangle them or hurt their feet and hands. For example, more than a hundred balloons were recently collected at Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge in New Jersey at a cleanup, and that’s just the number that made it to this one particular beach. Read the whole article at Balloons & Wildlife (warning graphic pix)
Find Alternatives: Excerpt Balloons are not the only thing to decorate with. There are many safe, fun, and eye-catching alternatives to balloons for parties, memorials, fundraisers, and more! Many can be made at home and are great activities for kids. As we become more aware of our personal impacts on the environment people are ditching single-use, wasteful products for earth-friendly, reusable, and exciting alternatives!
