Big Cat Updates
Kathyrn Stapleton’s Coordinator Report for 6/7/17
Picky cats did well once the rain stopped. Rained during feeding so went back to a lot of cats.
New cats ate okay. Zucari is a bit picky, but Chaos and Cyrus ate well.
Kitten Cabana was deep cleaned.
After the rain there were a lot of twigs and sticks to pick up.
The cats all enjoyed getting their Enrichment goodies.
No raking today because everything was soaked.
Thurston and Lovey have access to their whole enclosure.
We had to wait until she she decided to venture into a different section of her enclosure so we could close the tunnel door. Eventually curiosity got the better of her and she ventured out of the first section. Keepers were quick to shut the door behind her. While she was off exploring we were able to go in and pull her travel crate out. It will need a good cleaning.
Babycakes ate well. He liked chicken and turkey today.
Live Traps were brought up to food prep and washed, were not set back up yet.
Divinity is doing fine. Apache Bobcat misses her.
Gale surprises keepers and interns:
Checking in on the new rescues, Cyrus, Chaos, and Zucari. You will also see Andi and Thurston.
Picking up BCR’s 500th Foster Kitten!
The kittens have made it back to the sanctuary!
Jamie Veronica presents our Bobcat Rehab program to the volunteers:
The video below is Jamie and Justin building the Rube Goldberg machine: This is an older video that was talked about in the comments of the live video on Facebook yesterday.
Kittens broke with diarrhea so the Kitten Cabana was scrubbed down completely and all of the kittens who were in there now have to be quarantined in Intern Housing until they are over it. I think there may be some new kittens today though.
Viewer Cathie asked for a link that would list the Representatives that have already signed on to support H.R. 1818.
Cathie, here is the link for that list: https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-congress/house-bill/1818/cosponsors

Enrichment nights are always fun. Good friends and creative work! Keepers and interns get together and dream up fund enrichment projects for the cats. Sometimes, Keeper Afton has a particular idea in mind for a video and this super team gets together and makes the enrichment items with her. Today’s Keeper Corner photos will show you a glimpse of Enrichment Night. The group gets together each week to make new enrichment items for the following week.
Check out Carole’s cute little video of Thurston Howell’s photos. He was so cute lounging on top of the big den he shares with his best friend, Lovey.

Updated Page: Bornean Bay Cat Facts
Camera trap video of bay cat in Central Kalimantan (Indonesia Borneo)
Here are some excerpts from the updated web page.
No actual studies of this cat have ever been made in the wild, and it continues to be the mystery cat of the feline family.
Size and Appearance: About the size of a house cat, the Bay Cat weighs between 5-10 pounds. It has 2 coat colors, the more common being a chestnut-red, and the other being a gray. The coat is speckled with black markings, and the backs of the rounded ears are darker in color. The tail is long and has a whitish stripe running down most of the underside of the tail, which becomes pure whiListen to Bay Catte at the tip, but black on the topside. It has a long body, and that combined with the long tail give it the appearance of the Jaguarundi.
Habitat: The Highlands, areas of rocky limestone on the edge of dense jungle. Some reports also indicate it may be found in dense primary forest and along rivers.
Distribution: Borneo only.
Principal Threats: The only believed threat at this time would be loss of habitat due to human settlement and logging. Unfortunately, since virtually nothing is known about this little cat, it is difficult to determine what threatens its existence and survival.
