The Lake Superior Zoo will lose one of its two Siberian tigers.
“Murray,” a male, will go to the Como Zoo in St. Paul, where it will be the given the task of breeding, zoo marketing director Anita Alberding said.
Alberding said Murray, one of several hundred Siberian tigers in captivity worldwide, will move as part of a larger plan to breed more tigers because the species is endangered.
“It’s not uncommon for this to happen,” she said.
Though Murray might be gone for good, Alberding said the zoo is trying to get another tiger in to replace it. She didn’t know when that would happen.
