Locals fear tiger in Quang Nam
VietNamNet Bridge ? Locals of Nam Phuoc town, in the central province
of Quang Nam, have avoided their fields over the last ten days,
frightened by tiger or panther footprints.
Lieutenant colonel Tran Cau, sheriff of Nam Phuoc, said that
footprints looking like those of a tiger have been spotted by locals
in a field. A dead cow buried there was also dug up and eaten.
“We have sent some forest rangers to take photos of the footprints
but are unsure whether the beast is a tiger or panther because the
prints are similar,” said Diep Thanh Phong, head of the Forest
Protection Agency of Quang Nam province.
Phong said that a mother and a baby panther fled their home in the
forest due to November flooding to Dien Thang commune in Quang Nam
province. The baby died but the mother has been spotted wondering
about the Dien Thang fields.
He said that if the footprints don’t belong to the mother panther
from Dien Thang commune, which may have swam across the Thu Bon River
to Nam Phuoc town, they may belong to a tiger which also fled its
more remote habit due to the recent floods.
