Louisville Zoo tiger takes trip to doctor
The Louisville Zoo’s Sumatran tiger took a trip to the doctor Wednesday.
Leela was born at the zoo five years ago. Wednesday doctors used sedatives so they could do a physical exam. This helps keep the animals healthy and extend their life expectancy.
Animal Training Supervisor Jane Anne Franklin explains,”Tigers need to have physical exams, check them out, make sure they get vaccinations, do an EKG, we collect blood this year doing biopsy to go into the DNA bank. So we have all the genetic material we need and have markers for tigers at the zoo.”
Leela also had her teeth cleaned. The zoo does exams on the animals every two years.
