Forest department officials arrested one person at the Coimbatore bus stand on Wednesday for possessing a tiger skin.

V.T. Kandasamy, conservator of forests, toldDeccan Chronicle that the special team of assistant conservator of forests Jeyaraj and range forest officer Natrajan besides forest guards during a patrol found the culprit moving in a suspicious manner and recovered a tiger cub skin from him.

“Later, our team arrested the accused Palanisamy from Tirupur and booked him under Wildlife Schedule Act 1972. The seized tiger skin would be worth around `5 lakh in the international market,” said Kandasamy.

The forest official noted that the forest department has set up many anti-poaching camps and appointed anti-poaching watchers to monitor the movement of poachers in the forest range.

The accused person is being interrogated to find out from where he bought the tiger skin.
