Big Cat Updates
A cougar from another facility came in today to be seen by Dr. Justin. Thanks to donors like you we are able to offer our Windsong Memorial Hospital to treat cats from other facilities.
This pre-teen cougar has had an infected jaw that hasn’t responded to treatment over the past year and a half by two other vets. The facility owner sent him to us in a last ditch effort to save his life. His X-rays and vet notes show considerable bone damage in the jaw where there had been an infected tooth. Because he’s not improved over all these months of treatment, there is concern that the bone loss could be too much for him to be able to ever chew, but we are hoping for a miracle. The infection was because when the canine tooth had been broken or removed, the root was left to rot. Dr. Justin got the infected root out. The facility will be leaving the cougar with us through his follow up treatment until everyone is pretty sure this won’t relapse.
The cougar’s kidney values are 3X worse than normal. Jamie said the kidney issue could be due to the infection and may improve, but that it’s going to be touch and go for a while.
See three videos below.
Again, THANK YOU to all who have donated to our hospital. It is because of YOU that we are able to open our hospital to help this cat.
