Big Cat Updates

Sabre is our oldest cat.

Little Dove is our second oldest cat.

Canadian Lynx, Gilligan and Skipper have LOVED the colder temperatures.

Kricket:  If you remember yesterday she was added to the observation sheet because she was limping and her ankle looked a little swollen.  She has been carefully watched and the vets were alerted.  Today she is not limping but her shoulder looks like it might have some swelling.  Videos have been sent to the vet group for review.  She is being watched very closely as the vets want exact details.

Gilligan is being closely watched, too.  One of his water bowls was found completely empty, so we need to know if he is drinking that much or if he was playing in it.  Wouldn’t it be a dream come true if every cat out here had their very own nest cam?  Sigh…. someday, perhaps.

Sassy’ had moist poop.  Keeper saw a fresh poop consisting of one nugget, moist but hard.  She ate her mush and her chicken and enjoyed her blood sicle. Hospital keepers are checking on her frequently and watching her on the cam, as well.

Ginger‘s old enclosures are being worked on. Ginger was moved on down by Frosty.  You know Frosty is loving that!!!!

JoJo and Diablo also like having pretty Ginger as a new neighbor.  ~Keeper Linda L

Back on February 27th Ginger had caught and killed a poor squirrel.  She did not eat it but proudly displayed it for her neighbors.  She is now checking out her new enclosures and I’m quite sure she will be chasing lizards etc.  Her new neighbors are in for some fun “shows” because this girl is always on the go.

Nirvana refused her breakfast.  I have not heard yet whether she ate a good lunch or not.  She is sure enjoying being back outside.

Little White Dove ate a really good breakfast.

Gabrielle didn’t eat all her breakfast but she seems fine.  However, because she didn’t eat everything on her plate she made the observation sheet.

Hoover ate a good breakfast.  This morning he liked chicken thighs, chicken breast, and red meat and ate 5.5 pounds.  Keepers have also taken him more food for lunch and he will have more with evening meds as well.  I have not heard yet how much he ate at lunch.

Joseph wasn’t very hungry this morning.  However, keepers were able to get him to eat some turkey, pork, and red meat.  Keepers will be running back and forth today offering him more food.

Cameron‘s favorite yesterday was chicken and turkey.  Now today his favorite seems to be ground beef and pork.

Zeus is eating well.

TJ, is not eating as much as we’d like but the keepers are working with him.  You can watch him on the Tiger Lake web cam at:

 Joseph’s Ibis Adventure 3/18/2017

Yesterday, in the Cat Updates section I told you about Joseph getting an Ibis.  I took that info off of the morning keeper logs so did not yet have many details about it because the keepers were still out on grounds working.  Some of you have asked about the event.  So, I emailed Lauren B directly since she is keeper who reported it.  Here is her reply:  “I didn’t see him catch it. But when I got there to do meds this morning he came down from his platform, led me to it and then proceeded to parade around it as though he was so proud. It took me a while to get him to take his meds because he was walking around it. He didn’t eat any of it though. I felt bad for the bird but I was very proud of the old man…he showed he still has  skills 🙂 ” ~Keeper Lauren B

Further on this subject some of you asked how the bird got in Joseph’s roofed enclosure.  Joseph has five sections to his cage and each section is about 1800 sq ft.  The wiring is 4″x4″ squares.

After seeing the comments on this yesterday, Viewer Shawn P commented:  “I have seen the Ibis step through the 4 inch holes in the fencing around the vacation rotation on the feeding station camera. They have long legs, but their bodies can really compact. You’d think after a while they’d figure out its the cats that keep eating them, but nope.  I found a video I took a while back of the Ibis in the VR during a rain storm. If you watch around the 2 minute mark you can see the gray bird on the right hand side walk right through the fence!

Great day today at the Humane Society of Tampa Bay. We helped them paint the outside of their building. Then of course when we were done we visited lots of animals that were waiting to get adopted. ~Keeper Jennifer B

NOTE:  Our domestic foster cats and kittens come to us through The Humane Society of Tampa.

I just can’t figure out why my clean laundry still has cat fur on it.  ~Keeper Jennifer B

This morning Cheetaro had to show me he still enjoys a good climb in his tree.  Like most cats he wouldn’t stand still so this came out blurry unfortunately. Would have loved a good photo of him in the tree. ~Keeper Lynda L  (Cheetaro will be 19 in July)

Big Cat Challenge – Just for fun

Wanted to share with you another pawsome BCR Sock Model.  This one is Scotti Cohn.  She is a children’s book author and is frequently sending us photos she has taken on the cats’ web cams.

From Scotti:  I saw where you posted that cute photo of BCR socks from Lee Durbin on the website. I’m attaching a photo of my own BCR socks on my feet.  I wore them for good luck every time I went to see the Clemson Tigers play basketball this year.  Alas, they did not get into a tournament, but in most of the games they lost, they came within a point or two of winning! I just know it was the socks!

In case you missed it, here is Lee Durbin’s BCR Sock modeling photo.

Have YOU modeled your BCR socks, yet?  No, well, kick off those shoes and show us your BCR socks!  Send the photos to lawanna, you have until March 31st to send in those modeling photos.  Have Fun.  Don’t have any BCR Socks, yet?  Find them at

Note To Viewers:  Some of you have asked that I start putting these video back on the page.  The reason I stopped was because people with phones were having trouble loading the page.  Let’s try to meet in the middle on this.  I will begin adding some again, but just not as many.   I am depending on YOU ALL to tell me what is not enough and what is too much.  It should be enough for you all to enjoy but not so many that everyone can’t load the page.  Since I don’t view this page on a phone that balance will be difficult to achieve so PLEASE, all of you, SPEAK UP and let me know.  Not enough, too much, or just right?  Keep In Mind:  I don’t always have time to watch ALL the great view videos on the links below so I just randomly pick a few.  What that means is you might be missing some really good ones so be sure to go to the links below to look for more.
