Great day today and lots of volunteers to get everything done.

We had 3 private tours as well as a kid’s tour today.

Food-prep was finished by noon which left the interns for tours which was great because we had 3 afternoon tours!

Fred and Emma were not on tours so they worked on making wire covers for the tiger ponds. We changed a few of them but ask Afton which ones still need to be replaced

The cicle cats all loved their treats today!

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Kathyrn Stapleton’s Coordinator Notes for 3/22/2018

Was a beautiful day, cool in the morning but sunny, clear and dry.

Not a lot of volunteers today, but the ones who came out made it work. Food prep was almost done by lunch and the Interns were able to start Hoover’s new cage in outback. They really got a lot done in a few hours.

Picky cats ate well today, must have been the chilly morning.

That’s it for me!
Kathryn

Noel:   Many of you have been asking about Rehab Bobcat, Noel.  She is doing very well.  She still has a long way to go before returning to the wild but she is doing really well.

Big Cat Friend:  THANK YOU for the donation of the GoPro Head Set.  We do not know who sent it, but want to say, “THANK YOU!”[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Did you notice?  At the top of this page, right about the first photo are buttons for Facebook, Twitter, & Pinterest?

Using those buttons you can quickly and easily share this Big Cat Update on your own wall.  We would appreciate any shares you can give.  Your shares will help boost our search engine ratings which intern will help us reach more people with our mission to save big cats.

In April 2017 the South American country of Guatemala banned the use of wild animals in circuses. Guatemalan authorities gave the circuses one year to surrender their animals to sanctuaries or wildlife rehab centers, both national and international. The deadline of April 11, 2018 is fast approaching and the vast majority of the animals are still in need of rescuing. We need your help now to save these tigers, lions and cougars!

Big Cat Rescue is working closely with Animal Defenders International (ADI), Tigers in America and other rescue groups to save the 70+ lions, tigers and cougars and approximately 10+ other animals (camels, spider monkeys, llamas, porcupines and goats) now languishing in small cages in Guatemala. You may recall that Big Cat Rescue worked with ADI to provide a new home to Hoover tiger in April 2015 after ADI rescued him from a circus in Peru.

Hoover Tiger was rescued by ADI from an illegal circus in Peru. Help Us Rescue Former Circus Big Cats From Guatemala!

It really baffles me that so many people contact us all the time asking we save this cat or that cat from a horrible situation but so few are willing to step up to the plate and give two minutes of their time to actually make a difference doing something as simple as making a phone call and leaving a message.

Some of you have asked us to make a video showing how easy it is to make the Call of the Wild.  Here it is.  PLEASE post this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2bAibXxplqE on your social media pages frequently and purr-sonally ask your friends and family to make the Call of the Wild at BigCatAct.com.

Change will not happen until ALL OF US start making this action a priority!![/vc_column_text][cq_vc_videocover videoimage=”104769″ videolink=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2bAibXxplqE”][vc_column_text]We ask people to make the Call of the Wild at least once a week.  These twelve people have made the call the most.  We’d LOVE to see YOUR name added to this list but ONLY YOU can make that happen.

Between March 16th and March 23rd the following Representatives were contacted the most.

Weekly Report March 23, 2018
Is YOUR Representative’s name on this list?

If YOUR State’s Representative is not on the above list, YOU CAN CHANGE THAT by making the Call of the Wild yourself and by asking your friends and family to make the call too.

Do YOU REALLY WANT the abuse and exploitation of big cats and their babies to stop?  Yes? Then, PLEASE, make the Call of the Wild?  It takes two minutes of your time.

We realize it can be scary to make the first call, but once you do you will be amazed at how easy it really is and  you will wonder why you thought it was so scary.

Come on, leap on over to BigCatAct.com and Make the Call of the Wild to help save big cats and their babies.  YOU CAN DO IT!!  I KNOW YOU CAN!!

Since we are in an area that gets storms with strong winds our enclosures are built in sections with curved walls, which are stronger than straight walls.  Each cage section is connected with doors and/or tunnels.

The cats move back and forth, freely, whenever they want from section to section.  Well, that is unless your pesky brother decides to take an ALL AFTERNOON nap in the middle of the tunnel.

I about fell out of my chair laughing when I opened Keeper MaryLou’s email with this story and photo series.  I can just see the event unfolding in my mind.  That Andre can be a real stinker when he wants to be.  Precious big boy Arthur is so patient, most of the time, with his siblings and their ornery antics.[/vc_column_text][vc_masonry_media_grid item=”masonryMedia_ScaleWithContentBlock” grid_id=”vc_gid:1521933706617-8dc24589-d1c1-5″ include=”104754,104755,104756,104757″][vc_custom_heading text=”The Lion Trade” font_container=”tag:h3|text_align:left” google_fonts=”font_family:Open%20Sans%20Condensed%3A300%2C300italic%2C700|font_style:300%20light%20regular%3A300%3Anormal”][vc_column_text]This is a PDF put out by BornFree that explains many angles of the Lion Breeding.

March 19, 2018

Dear Sir or Madam:

Just what is going on down there? What is this I hear? A tiger in my former enclosure? A STINKY TIGER?!

It was bad enough when I had to share my whole road with them, but now I hear you are going to put one in my former home.

May I remind you that tigers were responsible for mutilating my daisy garden? And peeing on my camera? And a host of other atrocities that are too many to list here?

I may not be there physically any more, but my spirit lives on. I am now and will always be The King of Big Cat Rescue, and I wish to file a Formal Complaint about this situation.

If you move a stinky tiger into my former home, I will make it rain for 40 days and 40 nights. Oh wait, that’s already been done. Okay, then I will send a hurricane … oh, that, too. Well, I don’t know what exactly I’m going to do, but I will think of something!

A stinky tiger …. Harrumph!

Sincerely, Joseph Lion

We were afraid she might not be drinking enough, so we set up a trail cam on her water bowl to see what is happening at night. She came to drink 3 times over a 24 hour period, so we can quit worrying about her water intake, but what we discovered will amaze you. She makes a complete lap around her cage, about every 2-4 minutes. She made over 200 laps, which means she covered 92,000 feet. If you divide that by 5,280 (the number of feet in a mile) that means she’s covering over 17 miles a day. Aren’t bobcats amazing? More than that; this REALLY shows why it’s so cruel to breed exotic cats for life in cages. One day Aphrodite will be free and can roam as far and wide as she wants.

You can donate to the cats at NO COST TO YOU when you select BCR as your charity on Amazon Smile and shop Smile.Amazon.com instead of Amazon.com. It is exactly the same as regular Amazon EXCEPT when you use the Smile URL Amazon donates .5% of your purchase to BCR. Adds up to over $20,000 for the cats in the last year!

Please visit BigCatRescue.org/amazon-smile for how to sign up and let me know you did so I can thank you. 🙂
