Big Cat Updates

Hoover’s exam went well – he had every nail trimmed including a severe dew claw. He will need to stay off dirt for a while to heal so we have to shift the visiting cougar elsewhere then get Hoover in the hospital cage. He also had a red spot on his tongue removed and sent out for testing. He is waking up well now. Photo by Mary Lou Geis

FANTASTIC NEWS FOR BIG CATS IN AMERICA!

FANTASTIC NEWS FOR BIG CATS IN AMERICA! The Water, Oceans & Wildlife Subcommittee of the Natural Resources Committee of the House of Representatives will be holding a hearing TOMORROW (Tuesday, March 26) in Washington D.C. to discuss the Big Cat Public Safety Act (HR 1380)! This is a CRUCIAL step in our fight to ban tiger and lion cub petting/photo ops and end the private possession of big cats in this country. Passing this bill into law will significantly reduce the number of big cats suffering inhumane treatment as backyard pets and in roadside zoos. Contact your House of Representatives member TODAY and let the aide who answers the phone know you “want my Representative to champion the Big Cat Public Safety Act HR 1380 as it heads to a hearing in the Water, Oceans & Wildlife Subcommittee of the Natural Resources Committee tomorrow." Go to BigCatAct.com to take action! The cats are counting on you to be their voice in Congress. Thank you!

Saying Goodbye to Zabu Tiger

We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved white tiger Zabu. She stopped eating a couple of days ago and was lethargic this morning. Dr. Justin came in to examine her. He first did blood work, which indicated she was in the final stages of kidney failure. She was humanely euthanized.

He first did blood work, which indicated she was in the final stages of kidney failure. She was humanely euthanized. While kidney failure is the medical cause of her death, we believe she died of a broken heart. She’s now reunited with her Cameron, and for that we are grateful. There will never be another “odd couple” like them and our hearts are shattered yet again.

Coordinator Report –

Karma Hurworth – Despite today being a sad day, we still had, with private tours, over 110 guests to smile at and give tours to. I want to thank some awesome people that made today a success.

Susan Bass gave a private tour this morning, as well as Dennis Mitchell and Barbara Nicholas who also gave 3 pm tours.

Candy Couser came over from the keeper side to give Debra Bogstad a tour guide sign-off, one step closer to being a guide!

Lisa Spencer-Novak, Jeanine Ramirez, Christina Cochard, Tanya Chute, Mazz & Caity Farr all pitched in so we could send a whopping 5 full tours out.

Last but not least, a huge way to go and high five to Mary Gagliordi who answered the phone, greeted the guests and kept things running smoothly out front while I did shipping and cared for our adorable bottle babies!

Thank you all! Because of your help, this was over $4,500 for our cats today. You all ROCK!

Lauren Buckingham – Sad day today with the passing of Zabu first thing ?

Hoover had his nails trimmed. He is in the transport cage overnight to wake up fully. He did well and woke up well from sedation.

We sent out 5 tours in the PM so had a very busy afternoon. Thank you to everyone that helped with them!

Myself, Bethany, Michael, and Fred cleaned up an enclosure during tour time.

Bethann and Candy made and handed out cicles.

Picky cats ate well.

That’s it from me
