 What IS World Wildlife Day?

On 20 December 2013, at its 68th session, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) proclaimed 3 March, the day of signature of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), as UN World Wildlife Day to celebrate and raise awareness of the world’s wild animals and plants. The UNGA resolution also designated the CITES Secretariat as the facilitator for the global observance of this special day for wildlife on the UN calendar.

World Wildlife Day 2017 encourages youth around the world to rally together to address ongoing major threats to wildlife including habitat change, over-exploitation or illicit trafficking. Youth are the agents of change. In fact, we are already seeing the positive impacts on conservation issues made by some young conservation leaders around the world. If they can help make a change, you can too!

 Wildlife ACTION ALERT

(Please, download this photo and post it EVERYWHERE!)

Protect Alaska’s native wildlife

Animals in Alaska’s national wildlife refuges will soon be at risk of being hunted in their own homes. After H.J. Resolution 69 passed the U.S. House of Representatives on February 17, the U.S. Senate is now considering legislation that would be bad for wildlife. S.J. Resolution 18 will revoke the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) rule prohibiting controversial and scientifically unjustified killing methods on over 76 million acres of federal lands in Alaska.

The FWS’ rule prohibits these egregious tactics of unsustainable predator control including denning of wolves and their pups — involving shooting or trapping the wolves while at their dens in the spring — and using airplanes to scout, land and shoot grizzly bears. The rule does not prevent subsistence hunting on Alaska’s national wildlife refuges. If the rule is overturned by invoking the Congressional Review Act, the FWS will be permanently barred from reinstating it unless Congress passes a law allowing a new rule.

We must act now to ensure Alaska’s wildlife is protected! The wildlife on these refuges belong to all Americans, not just a privileged few who want to kill iconic species like wolves and bears for trophies.

Please make a brief, polite phone call to your U.S Senator.  Look up your senator’s phone number.  You can simply say, “Please oppose Senators Sullivan and Murkowski’s Joint Resolution 18 which would revoke the FWS rule protecting wildlife on Alaska national wildlife refuges from cruel hunting methods.”

VIDEO:  House Cats to Tigers! by Cole & Marmalade

No matter what their size, cats are all very similar… Oh yeah except BIG cats can and will eat you if they feel like it! … They will always have their wild instincts which makes them dangerous and unpredictable.

Did you know it’s legal to own tigers, lions and other big cats as “pets” in over half of the USA?! – Not only is this is a HUGE public safety concern it also means that THOUSANDS of exotic animals are languishing in tiny backyard cages or rundown roadside “zoos”

Breeders also exploit big cat cubs as photo props and force them to perform in circus acts, when they become too large to use or become “unmanageable” they’re discarded back into the exotic animal trade and killed for their body parts or made into trophies…. this fuels the demand for big cat parts which means more WILD big cats are poached… it’s a vicious cycle, but one we can help stop!

To learn more and find out how you can help stop big cat abuse, please visit: http://bigcatrescue.org  ~Chris, Cole, and Marmalade.

Note to Chris, Cole, & Marmalade:  THANK YOU, for making this video and for the words in your post.

Note To Viewers:  The words above this video are what Chris posted on Cole & Marmalade’s Facebook page.  Be Sure to check out his page and “Like” it at https://www.facebook.com/ColeandMarmalade/ If you have time, please tell them you appreciate this pawsome video and all the things Chris does to help promote Big Cat Issues.

 Keeper Corner

Keeper Afton

Fun Fact About Me:  If it wasn’t for the black leopard species, I probably wouldn’t be where I am today career-wise. When I was in fourth grade we had to pick our favorite animal to do our first research paper on. I soon found out there was no such thing as a black panther, but I was fascinated and the rest was history. I decided I was going to get my degree in Zoology at the age of 10, and years later, that I did.

 What Is Smile.Amazon.com?

A wonderful way to support the cats at no cost to you is to go to your Amazon.com account and sign up for Amazon Smile to have .5% of your purchases donated to Big Cat Rescue.

It is easy to set up.  Once you do, instead of going to Amazon.com to shop, in the future you go to Smile.Amazon.com. Everything at Smile is exactly the same as you are used to at Amazon, same products, same prices.  If you have a Prime account, it will still be there in Smile. The ONLY difference is that .5% of your purchases are donated by Amazon to Big Cat Rescue – ZERO cost to you, but it sure adds up for the cats.

To sign up for Smile just go to https://smile.amazon.com/ch/59-3330495 and log in with your usual Amazon ID and password.

Once you have signed up, you should go to Smile.Amazon.com to make your purchases instead of Amazon.com.

Just typing Smile into your browser instead of Amazon should take you there, or bookmark the URL, or, after you select Big Cat Rescue, you may see a screen like the one below inviting you to download a shortcut to Smile.Amazon.com.

Want to access your Smile account from an iPhone or iPad?  Easy!

Open Safari and go to Smile.Amazon.com

Log in with your Amazon login

Hit the SHARE icon at the bottom of the screen (the square with the arrow pointing up)

Hit the Add to Home Screen icon (the square with rounded edges with the + sign in it)

You will see an icon direct to your Smile account (including Prime if you have it) on your phone’s home screen.

If you have the regular Amazon app on your phone, it is a good idea to delete it so you do not forget and go there.

Smile.Amazon.com works the same as Amazon.com and has all the same products. The only difference is that it sends a half percent of your purchase to Big Cat Rescue. This has become a meaningful source of support that you can add to at no cost to you. Please sign up and urge people you know to do so.
