Big Cat Updates

Wyeth Update:  Wyeth was released yesterday on  thousands of acres of prime bobcat habitat.

Zabu’s red meat has been cut in smaller pieces, as she recently seems to prefer smaller bites.  She was carrying the large chunks of red meat out of the lock out and leaving them laying in the enclosure.  Before we can go in to retrieve it we have to lock her and Cameron in another section.

ACTION ALERT

Ask luxury fashion brands to stop using exotic cats in ads!

It is time for fashion brands to stop exploiting big cats, cubs and kittens – like this cougar kitten currently being used in a PUMA sneaker advertisement – in their marketing and advertising campaigns. Big cats belong in the wild. They should not be exploited as photo props to sell clothes, shoes, handbags, watches and perfume!

PUMA is owned by the Kering Group, a $40 billion French conglomerate which also owns Gucci and more than a dozen major luxury fashion brands with a disturbing history of exploiting big cats as advertising props. Gucci’s Spring 2017 ad campaign features models posing with tigers, lions, leopards and other big cats. Kering brand Yves Saint Laurent had a perfume advertisement featuring a model stroking a live leopard. Worst of all was Alexander McQueen, another Kering brand, which bought a taxidermied tiger from a German zoo to use as an ad prop in 2010.

Will you please help us politely convince Kering Group to implement a “no wild animals in advertising” policy across all of their brands? This would be a major win for big cats used as advertising props and set a new standard for the fashion industry!

 Funny Story About Lakota Bobcat

We were assigned small cat lockouts the morning of March 25th.  We were excited to see our newest residents- Sioux and Lakota. We saw Sioux in her den right away but searched and searched for Lakota. We were ready to panic and call the coordinator to come locate him when we looked up and saw him up in his tree! He had been staring at us from up there the whole time! It’s so funny how we got used to 20 year old bobcats that don’t climb and now we have some very crafty, curious younger ones to keep us on our toes.  ~Keepers Mark & Brittany Mira
